  • I think you guys are focusing on semantics. If it is approved it will say it on the bottle.
Again it will say on the bottle

    • Currently sitting on the side of the road waiting for the RACV after getting the catalytic converter fault and "EPC". Turning the car off and on seems to have cleared it, but as the car felt a bit rough earlier, better safe than sorry.

        RACV or VW Assist?

I got the Cat Converter fault on mine - but it was the break vacuum pump - don't go by what the dash light says....

        • Called VW Assist. They said that they're sending RACV.

Hoping that its just a software glitch. Gotta be in Brisbane by Sunday night. It only came up when I sank the boot going into a 100 zone from a 60.

          • So, yeah, this has completely destroyed my plans. Am back in Melbourne, car is still in central Victoria waiting to be checked on Monday. I'm betting that it's a problem with a sensor somewhere.

It's broken my trust with the car though. So, it's going to go. Will start sourcing a deal on a Toyota 86 or the BRZ over the next couple of weeks. That way there will be a fair amount of warranty left when I sell the Polo.

            • I'm sorry to hear that mate, not good. But if the car was still working why wouldn't you keep driving it?

I used to have this problem all the time with my bros Hyundai Getz, the engine emissions light would come on from time to time (would usually happen going up to NSW from Victoria in summer) and would be replaced by putting a new O2 sensor in on the lower end of the catalaic converter (heat related)

We allways kept driving until it suited us to find a service place because is does nothing bad for the engine (unless you are seriously pushing it)

Remeber all warning symbols are colour coded as stated in the manual:

Green - Continue to drive on, no urgency, no action required

Eg. Depress brake pedal to change gear selector leaver)

Yellow - Contuine to drive on, slightly more urgent, action required when available

Eg. (Yellow) Oil light - engine oil level low, Check when possible.

Red - DO NOT DRIVE ON. Highest importance, immediate action required.

Eg. (Red) Oil light - engine oil pressure too low. Stop car and inspect (and call for service if the fault is not cleared)

The EPC light is yellow so you could have driven on until you got home. Just saying. But it is unfortunate to hear. If you are going to buy another car please don't sink as low as the masses and get the overrated Toyota 86/brz. The funny thing is the brz compleatly goes against everything Subaru has stood for, for many year. That been constant 4wd in all of their models.

              • Didn't drive on because I was 150kms into a 4000km round trip for Christmas. It was suggested to me that if I continued to drive on and anything went wrong I'd end up having warranty issues.

Gotta admit that I didn't realise about the colour coding. Probably didn't need to follow the advice about towing rather than driving to a service centre.

                • The dealer looked at the car today. The issue turned out to be a misfire in cylinder 4 occurring between 4000-5000rpm. Apparently it's a software issue, so has had an update which will hopefully sort it.

Don't know how long it's been an issue for as I don't often get past 3500rpm (the car still hasn't had a proper thrash after 7 months). But it probably accounts for the lagging I've noticed when I plant the foot occasionally.

                  • 300kms in after the oil breather pipe has been fitted and NO exhaust soot. Usually after I wash the car, within 50kms there are spots all over the back.

I'm 'actually' surprised.....seriously, surprised. I'm not going to say that it's fixed as the oil consumption will be the big test

I really don't understand how software could cause misfiring on one cylinder

                      • Sounds like by "software update" they mean "cleared fault code any maybe replaced dodgy coilpack on number 4 cylinder".....

                          Could well be...

Overall, I'm pretty unhappy with having to cancel my trip because my 7 month old car decided to have an issue. VW's processes are poor. I was dumped at a service station in a small country town at 10:30pm on a friday night (had to get my mum to do a 300km round trip to pick me up), the car wasn't even looked at until the following tuesday. I had issues with work because I was supposed to be in Brisbane Monday morning and have had all my holiday plans made unworkable.

So, like I said before, the car is probably about to go on the market & be replaced by an 86/BRZ.

                          • Mechatronics and dual mass flywheel failing again. Taking back to Chatswood Classic Cars to possibly rectify :/

Update: Thankfully no problems, the unit needed to be resetted.

Since then very happy and smooth gearing once more xD

                            • The lemon story continues... so after 4000km, and 4.5L of top ups, I got the EPC light and engine light solid and flashing. After a 1 hour wait, NRMA said the engine is misfiring. After another 1 hour wait, my polo is being towed home.

No service center open until Monday, heading overseas on Wednesday... what a mess....

You've probably dropped a cylinder and you'd need the engine replaced! Take car to VW on Monday and leave it with them!
