MY12.5 Candy White 5 door Polo GTI. Upgrades/Mods = RNS510 H LED, RVC camera, Auto Lights Dash Sound Actuator GTI button, Gavs Footrest(!)
WIP = Miltek Turboback Exhaust, Cold Air Intake, Red Stuff brake pads (Nov '13)
Try to take in your hand the central rear mirror: with the Soundaktor on you will feel a strong vibration at any rev, disconnecting it the vibration will disappear and also the dash noise will go away...
I think my RCD-510 is dying or something funky is going on with the electrics. 3-4 times now the RCD-510 is blank when I start the car and then it comes on about 30 seconds later. The lights also very quickly flash on the buttons before it switches on.

First off bash your head against a wall because that is what it is like, then attempt to contact the complaints department through customer care 1800 607 822 and if you get nowhere with that, send an email to Proffesor Martin Winterkorn, the CEO of Volkswagen group. YOu won't get a response directly from him, but the office it goes to gets you a response and a case number a helluva lot quicker than going through VW australia!
yes with ther same problem i am also suffering from it these days and i also hear the rattle sound from accelerators
and also while turning many time the indicators dont blink although they are in very good conditions
I've got one im not sure has been mentioned, i've come to notice a weird squeek/rubbing/grinding sound when the car is just taking off in the morning coming from the front (wheel/suspension/brakes area) Only really does it when cold but I noticed this afternoon when pulling up at home I chucked it in reverse (slight incline) and it made the same noise. To me it sounded almost like it was something to do with the hill assist/brakes as when I got off the brakes it did this sort of grindy squeeky thing before it moved backwards.

you could rock up to the head office in muir rd chullora. Not sure if it will get past the front desk but they have a nice cafe where you could sit and wait them out lol.
.....That could simply be the electrical distributer which is completely normal......It sends electrical current to the spark plugs in a sequence. When the engine is idling is when the sound is most prominent.
I noticed a similar ticking noise whilst idling at the drive thru tonight; it was definitely coming from the dash, on the right hand side of the driver side. I had my lights on and noticed each time the ticking noise happened the headlights dimmed; I took some video from both inside and outside the car. On the outside it sounded like the engine was about to cut out when then lights dimmed (It wouldn't have, but just had that hesitation type sound). I thought I might take the videos to the dealer on Monday, unless of course I get info from people on here that it is normal and there is nothing to worry about.
First off mate, these cars don't have a distributor, they have coil packs so forget that.
If the ticking is every ~0.3 secs at idle, that's your injectors.
Same as anything, if you suspect there is something wrong with your car and especially if it's under warranty, your first stop should be the dealership.

Thanks for the feedback Gavs; when you say ~0.3 seconds; do you mean once every three seconds or once every third of a second, i.e. three times a second?
By the way, I will be taking it in to speak to the dealer; it still has a long warranty period.
Sorry, I meant once every 0.3 of a second, so 3 times a second.
Yours being a diesel too, not sure how much you know about compression ignition engines but there are no sprk plugs, coilpacks or distributers. If you have ticking, more than likely the high pressure common-rail injectors are what is making the noise. Get it checked though.

I've noticed my TDI ticking and sounding like it's going to cut out just before the DPF light comes on (maybe a day before). We do many, many short trips (which are unavoidable) and my sister... she needs to really learn how to drive a manual, properly. Anyway, so our DPF seems to get clogged often. After giving it a quick blast down the freeway in 4th (with the manual, not sure about DSG) the light goes off, and when it gets home it idles normally and is about 300% quieter.

You have perfectly described the affliction of so many modern diesels and why people need to do research before buying one. Short trips and modern diesels do not walk hand in hand.

Think I might have the same thing... Doesn't really bother me yet since it only seems to happen after taking off after the car has been parked for a few hours. Haven't noticed it while reversing though.
