Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • GTi Magnetic Clutch Stuck Closed

The car has got to a point it has had enough..... P10A9 00 [237] Magnetic Clutch Stuck Closed, and seems to have a small oil leak..... And the hood lining is dropping along with the front door material inserts.... Yay....

Anyone had a similar issue with the magnetic clutch, what do I have to look forward to with the repair?

    Cheers, Matt.

How does the car drive? Low on power or noticeable change in power delivery to normal?

The clutch fault is more than likely to do with the Supercharger/water pump assembly, nothing to do with the transmission as some people may think after seeing the word "clutch".

See here as this is basically the same issue: Fault code P10A9

and here: 2012 Polo GTI - water pump fault

Roof lining is common of VW's (my Mk6 GTI started to do it). Around $200-300 should have a new roof lining installed by an auto trimmer. They can fix your door cards at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion! Huge help.

100% agree on the lack of power. It was almost like the throttle wasn't working. But did eventually build revs, and hesitate on auto shifting. So I was thinking the worst... Motor fix-up first (might take the opportunity to replace/upgrade other parts while its in pieces) then to sort the hood lining and door trims.

Ok so it seems the supercharger is disengaged therefore the low down power (so below 3,000rpm) you are used to isn't there anymore.

I guess you can fix two birds with the 1x stone in this situation, as the supercharger clutch and water pump (both common issues on this engine) are both one and the same part.
