Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Nice colour, I took the Harvard blue on availability and also the heart break of trying to keep dark cars clean

      • Anybody noticing that the drivers seat doesn't go back to its memory setting every time and it migrates back a bit? About every three days I have to reset it as I get further away from the pedals like it's slipping, or I'm getting shorter It just doesn't return to the correct place each time after you get in and after the moves. I am the only driver so I'd turn off the easy in and out function if I could because I don't really need the seat moving every time I get in and out but you can't.
        Now: MY16 VW Passat 206TSI R-Line 4motion
Before: MY14 Skoda Octavia VRS TDI Manual, MY10 Skoda Scout TDI manual

        • In the persoalise menu under car settings. Manualy either code both the keys to one driver profile or to set them to different profiles. If you change keys then it will move the searea to whomever the profile is assigned too. There is also a lazy exit function you can add using vcds. It's fully moves the seat back when the vehicle stops.

          I hope this helps.

          • Just picked up our 206TSi earlier in the week. Some really nice features that I'm still discovering over our old MY12.5 TDi (let alone the extra performance). A few places where it's gone backwards too, but overwhelmingly a definite upgrade.

Does anyone know if there is any way to program the coasting function into the Individual driving mode? I note that the manual says Coasting is only available in Eco mode - not likely to spend much time in Eco.

            • Why do you want too? What in individual are you trying to keep. Cause eco imo still drives hard when the dsg is in S

              • Why wouldn't you want to? I'm not a fiddler - once I have determined the ideal settings (for me) I would generally leave it at that and not ever switch again.

So Individual settings should be just for that. For me Eco mode just doesn't cut it for my normal driving style.

                • Got a rude shock yesterday when my RACV comprehensive insurance renewal notice arrived for my 206TSI sedan at $1,247.31 per annum.

Last year my 140TDI Highline with R-Line Pack and Luxury Pack totaled $840.86 per annum and it would pretty much be the same amount this year.

What gives? Appealing as the 206TSI is there's just no way it's a true performance car that would warrant such a steep hike in insurance premiums.

I'll be having words with RACV given I have multiple policies with them, have been a customer for over 15 years and have a clean driving record.

                  • Yes mine went up from just under $800pa for the Tdi to just over $1000. Figured it was fair enough - new to market car with a still developing risk history and a significant performance hike over the old.

                    • Try Auto and General through Australia Post. Mine was around 700 from memory.
                      Nothing to lose by trying.

                      • Thanks CaseySP & 206Harvard for your responses.

I had a chat to RACV today and they are willing to drop down from $1,247.31 to $1,081.60. Catch is excess goes up from $625 to $750 and I forego the windscreen option. Better, but ....

I've done some extensive research online and prices fluctuate wildly for comprehensive car insurance. The cheapest are Budget Direct and Ozicare at $687 (with $800 excess) and the most expensive is Coles at $2,990 (with $850 excess). As mentioned by 206Harvard, most of the cheapest options seem to be underwritten by Auto & General Insurance.

                        Budget Direct $687 ($800 excess)
                        Ozicare $687 ($800 excess)
                        Dodo $691 ($800 excess)
                        Australia Post $708 ($800 excess)
                        Virgin Money $715 ($800 excess)
                        1Cover $748 ($800 excess)
                        Bingle $1,039.39 ($795 excess)
                        Allianz $1077.14 ($850 excess)
                        RACV $1,081.60 ($750 excess)
                        National Bank $1,122.39 ($850 excess)
                        GIO $1,261.91 ($850 excess)
                        Suncorp $1,239.93 ($800 excess)
                        Progressive $1,276 ($800 excess)
                        APIA $1,295.25 ($600 excess)
                        AAMI $1,313.58 ($745 excess)
                        CGU $1,463.11 ($800 excess)
                        Real Insurance $1,669.44 ($800 excess)
                        Commonwealth Bank $1,824.04 ($550 excess)
                        Woolworths $1,848.48 ($800 excess)
                        ANZ $1,875.95 ($600 excess)
                        Coles $2,990 ($850 excess)

Other than RACV, I have not spoken to any of the other listed insurers and the prices listed here are straight from online quotes. Now I have to wade through all the fine print. Interesting times ahead!

Totally agree Chopper, but since when does a semi-premium car - which is a depreciating asset - cost more to insure than a house?!

                            • You can't crash a house into a Volkswagen Passat but you can crash a Passat into a house. Worked in insurance many years ago and it's ticked a few of the boxes that get its points up. Reasonably high purchase price, a lot of good bits that are expensive to replace (think about the headlights and sensors in the bumper) plenty of power ect. Possibly tarnished by other hi po all wheel drive cars with similar on paper numbers.
