Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

    Updating Navigation maps on a 2016 Passat

    I was looking at updating the maps on my 2016 Passat and thought that the maps will be on a SD card in one of the slots but there doesn't appear to be any cards inserted in either slot. In the system setting \ remove safely \ select device the SD card 1 and 2 are grayed out.

    So where are the maps stored?

    Probably on the hard drive if there is no SD card. Have you checked in the glovebox? I dont think my car has an SD card installed either - but will check later.

    I was going to update the maps on my 2015 Golf GTI, but then bought a wireless CarPlay dongle and now I have Google Maps which is updated for free.

      What unit does the car have An RNS 510 or a later model

            I just went through this process with my MY17 Passat which also has Pro MIB2. Download and unpack to an SD card or USB drive.

            First attempt kept failing, so I downloaded again just in case the first download was corrupt. I used an SD card formatted FAT32 with 4096 sector size. After that it worked smoothly.

              I cant even get the maps to download off that site. Gets half way through and crashes.

                What speed connection have you got . Have never had one crash but often takes 3 hours to download

                Are you using a PC or a MAC

                I just d/loaded it to see and it took 32mins on a 250 connection Was getting 18MB per sec

                Server cant be busy as took me 179 mins first day it was on the site due to half the world trying at the same time

                  Just tried to do it at work yesterday afternoon. Said it was going to take about 2hrs but then crashed half way through. Im using a PC.

                  Im not too worried, as I use Carplay with Google Maps, but thought it might be a good idea to update the maps in the head unit.

                  Edit....trying to download again now. Looks like it might work this time. 10 mins to go.
