  • Coolant Topup Options

    Hi all,

I'm scheduled to the service centre next week but my coolant is extremely low and I would like to do a top up before seeing the service centre.

Can I confirm that any red coolant from supercheap auto will be fine?

I entered my license plate on their website and one is recommended with total flush and the other doesn't state that a flush is needed. I assume I use the non flush required one? The brand in Nulon for reference.

    I have a 2015 140TDI Wagon.

    TIA

NO use what it says on the side of the coolant container in the car should be either G12 or G13 and NEVER mix types of coolants as it can turn into mush in your engine I think G12 & 13 can be mixed but NOTHING ELSE should be used

Let the dealer do it at service with the correct stuff..
Why is it so low Dont think I ever needed to add any in my Passat

It makes me think that there is an issue with the sensor.

I went to port mac over the weekend and not once did it show up until now.

I just want to make sure I do run out before my appointment next Monday.

Well is it low in the container or what Post a photo of it showing the level.

Go to the dealer and buy some at spare parts. Cheaper than a new motor if you put the wrong Nulon crap in it

When did you check it prior to this last week, last month, Never

Demineralised water is always an option when you’re talking small amounts required for a simple top up.

The last service was in March 2020 and I've only driven 4000km due to COVID. 1000kms being just last weekend alone so I'm very suprised the coolant is so slow. I'm hoping it was just a case of the dealership not actually putting in coolant rather than something more sinister.

I check approximately 2 months ago and it was just above the minimum line

If that is today there is nothing wrong with it as as long as its up to the top of the spots its full Also as you see it takes G13 coolant. DO NOT put Supercheapo crap in it unless it is G3 spec

The Penrite red/pink coloured coolant is VW approved for G12/G13 specification and readily available at Repco/Supercheap etc.

I've had the same problem last year... turned out the water pump was leaking and was replaced under warranty. I topped up with distilled water prior to my appointment with the dealer.

Check and make sure your water pump is not leaking.
As you shouldn't need a top-up at all as mine have not even moved at all
after so many car service and mine is 122k now.

Definitely see if water pump is the issue. I'm getting my water pump replaced in the 206TSI under warranty next week as was leaving nice coolant puddles all over the place. De-mineralised water did the trick as a temporary small top up.
