Thanks. Yes waited a little longer and the budget got a little more stretched. I think what I paid was reasonable as it seems you get what you pay for.

Yer plans are to spend some time on polishing and protecting paint over the next couple of weekends. First black car I've owned so I'll see how it goes haha.

Will probably look to retrofit eventually as it would be nice, but not in a rush. Automatic tailgate would fall in the same category.

Any smaller mods you guys can recommend?

Congrats looks like a great find!
There are a few enthusiasts on here in that have done some nice upgrades and retrofits so feel free to ask them.
I've got more to come with mine but will likely be a few months.

You don't necessarily need the RNS to have RVC. I retrofitted the RCD and the RVC at the same time and works fine.

I managed to find a MY10.5 with less than 45,000kms on the clock. It came with an RNS510 to which i wired up a reverse camera (as they never came with both due to an error at VW)
Has a sunroof, bluetooth and all the rest except electric tailgate which i've heard can be more of a pain with issues than it's worth (i haven't really looked that far into it)

I think he's saying the 10.5 cars have the later climate control. The 10.5 cars are complied feb 2010 on and have an A in the vin instead of the 0.
Your car would be built/ complied 2009 wouldn't it? My2010?
I'm just using info I've read on this forum in the past. Could be wrong?

                    Purchasing R36 Wagon

Mine is a MY10.5 as confirmed by the write up on this forum.
My vin is WVWZZZ3CZAE too making it a MY10.5 rather than the WVWZZZ3CZ9E that would mean MY10. A bit of research goes a long way.

                      If it's an A chassis I has to be a 10.5.
Does that mean they were complied before feb 2010?
When was yours built and complied?
The number plates look like 09 plates but I guess they could've been old stock at Vic roads? The slim plates are often old.

MY10 – Compliance October 2009 onwards, Chassis ID WVWZZZ3CZ9E######. Not a lot of difference to the MY09 – has the same Climatronics (referred to as Mk5), which had been on the R36 since the beginning (MY08.) You were able to select a lot more options such as ACC Adaptive Cruise Control ($2,000) Lane Change Assist ($1,000) DCC Adaptive Chassis Control ($1,650) and Dark tinted rear glass ($500). RVC Rear View Camera was a separately ordable option (on wagons only) with either RCD 510 or RNS510 ($700) and RNS510 was revised down to a $2,500 option. The Glove Box mounted CD Changer was no longer an option.

MY10.5 – Compliance February 2010 onwards, Chassis WVWZZZ3CZAE######. Differences with MY10 was the new Climatronics (Mk6), MDI was standard as was the Dark tinted rear window and side windows, 65% light absorbing.

A few interesting points to make. VW started producing the MY10.5 in November 2009, but didn’t start compliance until February 2010, so technically there are no 2009 MY10.5. Conversely it stands to reason that thereare no 2010 MY10 R36s, despite the fact that Carsales allows you to register a car for sale with those details.

I wonder why your car has the old style climatronics? It obviously doesn't follow the specs you've posted above. Is it an early build and still retains some of the previous model specs? That's why I was wondering when it was built/complied?
I think it makes the car more interesting if it's a very early 10.5.

I’m the author of the thread which lists the differences between the MY10 and MY10.5 versions of the R36. I think if the chassis number indicates it is an MY10.5 and it is a February 2010 compliance (even if built as early as November 2009) then it is a MY10.5. If it doesn’t meet those three criteria (chassis no, compliance and build date) then I think there is something amiss.

Being an Alfa Romeo tragic, I can remember a lot of cross pollination between early and late versions of the same model. If the Italian factory still had a few of the old parts (carburettors, electrical components, trim, you name it) still on the shelf, they often ended up in the first of the updated models or conversely new parts ended up in run-out models. It was a fascinating if head scratching scenario and typically Italian…

I also owned an early Ford Fairmont AUIII that was built with AUII trim in it, which wasn’t unusual, but I digress…

I would be very surprised if the clinical Germans would do something like that. As I said in my thread, VW Australia produced a new Passat brochure in February 2010 specifically for the MY10.5 model and if you study it then it confirms the new Climatronics and the now standard MDI and 65% window tint (for the R36 only.) It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Brendan’s Climatronics have been changed and apparently it isn’t hard to do – Kamold has gone from a Mk5 through to Mk6 and now to a MK7.

and the "A" in the VIN means MY10 onwards, not just MY10.5
