Thanks guys. I think the MPS3's are the goer. I can get them for $188 a corner. Might hit the go button on that.

Have been offered PS3 from country dealer for $189, Bridgestone REO50? for $265 (Supplies police cars)
or Kumho KU22 for $155.
I subscribe to Choice, who have recently made a tyre test for 215/60R16 for tyres suited to Toyota Aurion amongst others (Toyota supplied a test vehicle, but Choice does not spec which model)
Kumho scored second from top! 85 in dry, and 85 in wet. Top performer was Bridgestone Turanza T001 75 in dry, 90 in wet.
Michelin Energy XM2 scored 90 in dry, and 60 in wet.
Test was carried out on a race track with the TCS disabled.
OK, NOT semi low profile tyres as fitted to my Passat. But it does seem as if rubber used by Kumho has good grip
My main requirements are LOW NOISE on coarse chip country roads, plus Grip/ braking on tight corners.
I just want a comfortable safe quiet drive with a good level of safety over indifferent country roads.
Happy to pay for PS3 But wondering if Kumho is an overlooked performer.

I think the 16 inch tyre test was aimed at family car tyres. Kumho says the ku22 is a comfort tyre. I put kumho ku39's on our old Passat as they were a close third on the Wheels magazine tyre test a few years ago. They were only $140 for 235/40/18 each compared to $220 for the assametric 2. They are also a Y rated tyre.
So I ended up putting the MPS3's on the R36. Very happy so far. Quiet, comfortable and look quite sporty as well. I couldn't honestly tell you what the grip is like as I mostly potter around town at the moment given it has rained on and off up here in Brisbane recently they performed very well and I didn't feel them lose grip at all. I can highly recommend them. Got them for $188 a corner with $100 cashback so it was within the budget.

I have been using Goodyear F1 D5 for my R36 and pervious Jetta. No complaints what so ever. What I have also found is although most of the performance tyre do provide enough grip and Goodyear F1 family do seems to last a lot longer than the others I had. E.g RE001, Dunlop sports maxxTT etc. may be due to harder tread? Also do buy them when it is buy three get one free. Makes them heaps cheaper.
Ive got a set of AS2's on my Octavia RS and they are super grippy, but life is poor.. I drive with spirit and only got 25,000kms on them unfortunately so it might have even been a bad batch as plenty of people are getting 35-40kms...
Just got a V6 B7 Wagon also for the wife and getting both cars done with PS3's... $162/corner for the 235's with a $100 cashback so works out to be $548 for 4 tyres fitted and balanced... Chuck an extra $60 for alignment and just over $600... Very happy with that..
Just hope the tyre is as good as everyone says which im sure will be the case..
