      The backstory:

There's no 2 ways about it. I'm an R36 fan...

Up until a year ago, I owned a MY09 Biscay Blue wagon. It was brilliant. I loved everything about it. But the time came to sell when we bought our forever house and we needed to free up some $$$ to have 2 cars in the family. It was a heartbreaking day, but the fall was softened by the enthusiasm of the new owner.

We replaced our family car with an MY09 XT Forester. It was ok. It did everything asked of it without protest. But it was no R36. It felt too high - cornering made me reminisce about the time I rode on an elephant in Thailand. It was quick enough, but felt strangled under the stock exhaust, and the interior felt cheap. I was not in love, so my wife suggested that we spend a bit of money on the exhaust and suspension (for me), a new head unit (for her) and a reverse camera (because it was really awkward to reverse). I didn’t like the idea of spending any money on it. And then one fateful day in the IKEA carpark... Bang! I backed into a bollard! That was it - it was dead to me. It went up on Carsales as soon as it was fixed and I started my search..

      The criteria.
      • MY09+
      • Less than 100,000kms
      • Auto tailgate

Colours weren’t important, but my preference was Blue > Grey > White > Black > Silver.

Things got close with a MY09 Icelandic Grey model with all options (except sunroof). 103,000kms. But it wasn’t to be. The owner was just too hard to deal with. He rescheduled our meeting time several times and stood me up twice. I hadn’t sold the Forester yet, so I didn’t pursue it further.

Almost a month later, the planets aligned. After growing frustrated with the lack of new listings on Carsales, I thought I’d check Gumtree.. The home of “I’m out of country, can I have your bank details so I can buy car”. A listing had been placed the same day:
      • MY10.5
      • 79,000kms
      • Silver
      • Auto tailgate
      • Dynaudio
      • RNS510
      • Sunroof
      • Lane assist
      • MDI kit
      • Bluetooth

There were no contact details so I contacted the seller through the gumtree contact form. He came back to me and things sounded encouraging, so I made a time to go and see the car. In the meantime, the Forester – which had received few enquiries until now – received a surge of interest and sold almost instantly. The next day, I went to Blaxland to see the R36 in person and had Dean @ VW Mobile Servicing meet me there to do a mechanical check. Everything checked out, so we made the trip to the bank to finalise the deal and I drove her home.

      I’m back, baby!

      Future plans:
RVC, LEDs everywhere, ATE discs and ceramic pads

          Nice pickup danger17!

Lane Assist is an interesting option. I don't think too many R36s came with that, or if they did, it was included with ACC and Front Assist. I think it was a $1,000 option.

I've read that the only difference between the MY10 and MY10.5 is that MDI was standard on the 10.5 and not an option.

You mentioned that your R36 was part of the last shipment? What is the compliance plate of yours? Mine was an April 10 build and June 10 Compliance.

          Cheers, Paul

Welcome back to the fold. With regards to the future mods, have a search through the threads here and check out the ones that I have started as that will answer your questions because I have done them to mine, all three of them, plus some extras which might interest you. Good pickup on the car. Looks great in silver.

I have copies of the sales brochures/spec sheets for the Passat dated March 2009 and February 2010. In the March 2009 brochure, MDI is optional across the board, while in the Feb 2010 brochure, MDI is standard on the V6 Highline and the R36. I haven't been able to track down a B6 brochure that's dated later than Feb 2010.

Mine was delivered in early October 2010, but I'm not entirely sure exactly when it was built. There's an 09/10 on the sticker at the bottom of the driver's side B-pillar, so I assume that mine was complianced in September 2010, but I'm not sure where to find the build date. So far as I can tell, the information might be on a sticker in the spare wheel well.

Had the car serviced today by Umai Naa!! Great service. The car feels great now and the convenience of having your car serviced at home is unbeatable. Highly recommended.

ATE OEM replacement rotors and ceramic pads fitted. Bye bye brake dust!!

You won't get rid of the brake dust mate. It will just be greatly reduced, that's all.

I'm sure Umai Naa!! would be more than happy to give you a quote. I got them as part of a service and didn't ask for a breakdown.
