Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It helps to use it immensely.

I've done it with out, and it's a pain.

ok guys, update here. I purchased the ATE ceramic rotors as well as ATE pads from Eurobahn here on the forums and I can honestly say that all is going well. There is no squealing or funny noises. I have only done 150km's on them so they have a couple of hundred more to properly bed in but they are at about 90% full braking capability at the moment so that is what I wanted. I just wanted the OEM feel and operation. To date the brake dust does seem less but I will hold judgement on that until things settle down. One thing I will quote on is the bloody weight of the front rotors!! My good ness they are a hulking mass of metal. I totally undercalled on the weight with the freight company but I got away with it as I didn't get a call up about it. I would put the rotors at somewhere around the 20kg mark. I had them delivered with two boxes taped together so it took a little to lift them up!! The rears were a little easier to deal with. Anyhow, I can vouch that the ATE products are working well together at the moment but I will chime back in with another report in a few hundred kays when they have properly bedded in.

I have ATE OE style front rotors (not the slotted ATE Power ones) with ATE ceramic pads.
They are brilliant. No noise, and NO DUST!!!

I don't know what the ATE power ones are but it sounds like kamold and I are running the same and I can vouch that they are good so far and yes I know it is a little early to really say.

They look like a good thing. Sourcing them is another matter.

I'll find out tomorrow if HSY can get them.

So here's the final verdict. I am pretty certain that now that the brakes have bedded in that it would be extremely difficult to tell the difference between he oem brakes and the ate which is a good thing. There would be a bees ***** in it with the oem brakes possibly having a little more initial bite but like i said, extremely negligible so i can vouch for these brakes for those looking into replacement rotors and pads.

It seems as though the dust is less but to be honest i need to wash the car first and then monitor as when the brakes were put in they sprayed tyre stuff all over the tyres and the over spray has got all the dust stuck to it but the car will be getting a wash on the weekend so ill be able to give an answer in a week or so when i can get a better idea.

                          Thank you VWWatercooled community!!!

I am up for a new set all round and this discussion is exactly what I was after. In particular I was keen to know if there was any degradation in performance on cold starts. It appears that it is minimal so ATE here I come.

Yeah mate, you can't go wrong. If there was minimal degradation then it only takes a couple of days of driving before you don't even know the difference anyhow. Happy braking.

Eurobahn informs me that shipping to Melbourne maybe prohibitive for the rotors so has anyone tried and able to provide feedback OEM rotors with ATE pads?

                                Try shipping with e-go couriers.
Quite affordable for heavy car parts.
