Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Try e-go.com.au couriers maybe.
I had a towbar kit delivered from Vic to me with those guys and it was very good value.

Aus Post - there's a case study in missing the point of their existence.

Well, I've ordered the ATE ceramic pads as well as the ATE rotors. Will see how they go. Will let you gents know what the outcome is once they are installed.
Just a quick question though. What are your thoughts on getting the brake fluid changed at the same time even though it was done 30k kays ago? Worth forking out more money in doing again?

Did you get the ATE ceramic pads from the member Eurobanh? Could you please report the fit on rears? I am looking at the ATE ceramic pads as well, to go with my already purchased DBA T3 & T2, in the future.

Re the fluid, I guess it depends on how much you love the car, haha

What time period was 30k km back?

personally, i probably would because I like getting things back to a baseline but I would probably do it this way:

              1) DIY brakes & rotors including replacing the slider rubbers on the front calipers and a full external clean of everything
              2) Bed in brakes and drive on them for a month (just to get an idea of how much of an improvement the pads rotors are by themselves).
              3) replace brake fluid with the proper Low Viscosity dot4 and include cycling the ABS pump as part of the process.

30k back was at the 45k service. Ive been quote $280 to do the install so ill let the experts do it. I'm mainly worried about the rears with the electric park brake system but i did do my old XR8 which wasnt too bad. May as well get the brake fluid done and then it is all new and i dont have to worry about it for a while.

With the rears, you need a scan tool with EPB capability.

No idea what those things are. Would most brake specialists have that or is it just VW dealers?

Should do, so should any European specialist.

They did not use the 3 pin wind back tool on the passat in the video, do DIYers need to prepare that tool? Thanks.
