Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Identifying starter motor

    Hi

I'm having a bit of trouble identifying which Bosch starter motor to buy for my Passat. It's a March 2008 build Passat Wagon with a 125kw TDI engine and 6sp DSG. There seems to be a few that should fit and they seem to vary in rated power (1.7kW, 2.0kW, 2.2kW) with a few other minor dimensional differences. Does that sound right? What are the virtues of each? The cost is quite different between them. The model numbers if you're interested are:

    0001123014
    0001153009
    0001123036

To complicate things, I messaged a well known Aussie seller with my rego/state and they suggested one that every website including their owns says would be incompatible with my car. That part number was 1986S00803

    Ta!

Send me your VIN via PM if you lie can tell you what you had from factory.
With that said though you can really use anything as far as I can tell.
    My original starter was 1.1kw.
I replaced it with a 2kw starter (obviously bigger, but still was able to fit without fouling on anything) which has been better at...starting.

I did suspect there could be a lot of interchangeability. The thing that threw me the most was being recommended one that all websites say won't work.

I'll PM you later when I can check the VIN. Thanks!

0001123014 is for manual gearbox's apparently Bosch Starter Motor 0001123014 | Run Auto Parts

0001153009 should be the correct one for your car. It's 2.2kw. Check your engine code is CBBB Bosch Starter Motor 0001153009 | Run Auto Parts

Use code DAD22 for 10% off during the fathers day sale if buying from Run Auto Parts.
