Whats the going hourly rate for mechanic in the East two quotes recently I received in Perth one was $165 the other $150 a hour.

About time to start changing my own oil, I think

Those rates are about what I would expect. I do as much maintenance as I can myself but I know my limits when it comes to knowledge or tools (specialist tools or hoist etc). As long as you know what you are doing and have the right tools, its fine. Just keep receipts and take photos to put in with your service records.

Oil and filter changes do not appear that difficult all the technical harder stuff can be done by a mechanic. Used to do all my own servicing in my earlier years when you could actually see everything looking under the bonnet, cars but these days unless you have a good workshop everything difficult to get too and more computerised

You have a 2009 Passat TDI correct? Easy to do your own oil changes etc on that car. Buy your filters etc online from somewhere like RunAutoParts or VAGParts and get your oil from Supercheap/Repco etc when its on sale.
