Query regarding Oil sump capacity

Hi Guys, so could some one please tell me what is the oil level using VCDS for a B6 125KW Passat wagon (editBMR engine). Diesel engine. I am getting 29mm.
Cold it is about 3mm above max whilst after a drive (warm engine) I can read max and see arrow dry on dipstick but the small knob directly above it has oil. This has been repeat tested about 6-7 times with the same result.

Oil level in mine takes 4 Litres at service and it never changes I have never ever added oil in 7 years. Always check oil in the morning after it has dripped down after a run. If doing it straight after runing of course it will be lower because still oil up in the engine galleries. Dont have a dongle and as long as it stays like it is I dont even think about it Mine has a CFG 125kw engine.

You need to factor in that whilst the engine is cold, oil has drained back to the sump from the cylinder head. You need to start it and run it for a bit, before checking the oil. The oil lever sensor isn't particularly accurate at the best of times. Always go off the dipstick.

FWIW, they take 4.5L of oil to the full mark from empty, including replacing the filter. Even then, make sure the sump plug is out when you remove the filter so that the housing can drain.

As per my other post, leave the sump plug out when you remove the filter.

It'll take 4.5L to the full mark every time.

Thanks guys. I had changed the oil and filter as part of the service due.
Cold engine, Opened filter housing and removed filter, unscrewed the sump plug and let oil drain, then added 40ml of new oil to filter and about 200ml to engine. Left to drain for 1 hr. Replaced oil filter and tightened cap25Nm torque, tightened sump plug 30Nm torque. Added 4.5L of oil but about 6mm above the max mark, loosened sump plug drained a bit to as described above. I realised later as car was slightly tilted may be not all oil drained. Did measure amount being disposed off and its about 4.5L.

Problem is finding a level flat surface to ensure reading is right from dipstick. Didnt really see such a big difference before so I thought I might get a bit of info from u guys.

Agree with Hillbilly. Don't overthink it, it's just an oil change. As long as it's between high and low, you're pretty right.

I'd also drain on a hot engine that's just been turned off - more particles in suspension and quicker flowing.

I thought cold would be better as most would be in sump, felt a lot more soupy than the petrol Ae112r I used to do lol. I will do a warm engine next time. Cheers

Agree with Hillbilly. Don't overthink it, it's just an oil change. As long as it's between high and low, you're pretty right.

I'd also drain on a hot engine that's just been turned off - more particles in suspension and quicker flowing.

Yep and check it in the garage next morning for true level. Presuming that your garage floor is level LOL

Which pours better warm syrup or cold syrup Same with oil Drain hot leave for 15 mins put plug in fill with specified amount. Check next morning when its cold. Job done. Check level every Saturday morning. Who knows if an oil line may leak. Has stood test of time for me
