Right... some photos. I'm having a monumental mental blank and I can't remember the settings I need to get good quality photos so you'll have to make do with the shots that actually turned out alright. I also can't remember how the video function works... it can't be too hard, I did it the other day!
Anyway, here they are. If they're slow let me know and I'll chuck them on another server.

Looks awesome Steve. A couple of questions if I may?
Do you have dynaudio? If not, how's the sound?
When the keys are in the ignition do they hang low enough to hit your knee or do they rattle?
Have you had a play around with the ESP off?
Cheers

Yeah... The Q7 is Dad's, the GTI was shared between Mum and I (I paid the extra $$ from TDI to GTI) and now I've sold my Commodore and ponied up a fair bit of coin to go halves in the R36. Leaving home will be interesting...!Originally posted by Mischa View Postnice collection of cars in the drive
I don't have Dynaudio. By the time i decided that I did want it, it was too late to option it as the car was "in production" and the specs couldn't be changed. I tried to source one with it, but wasn't able to without waiting another few months... nuts to that idea.Originally posted by Wyatt View PostLooks awesome Steve. A couple of questions if I may?

The sound is pretty good, although I've only played MP3's at moderate volume. I'm too busy listening to the engine and the noises of the car... but from what I can gather, it's pretty good. I think the Dynaudio is 600 watts, 10 channels, 10 speakers... the R36 standard system is 250 watts, 8 channels, 10 speakers.
I don't recall the keys dangling into my knee, and nor do they rattle. I'll check the first question and hope the second one is never an issue.
I haven't taken the ESP off yet - at least, not that I know of. I tried but the lights wouldn't light up so I must have been doing something wrong... time to go read the book I think.
Unlike the Q7, the park sensors do not display a graphic of the car on the navigation unit, and there's still no news about the reversing camera.
Bluetooth should be doable in a month or so, which will be alright...R36 =

Thanks guys... I already love it to bits
If anybody wants any more information or photos... ask away. I'm happy to help/share the love/etc.
I just went for a quick spin around the (2km) block. The windscreen wipers... work pretty well, it didn't have any problems at all in the wet - I went in to some corners at speeds that would upset the GTI but this thing handled without even making me think I'd overcooked it! - and the static/dynamic cornering lights are amazing.
There's a 90 degree bend up the road, and in my Commodore or Landcruiser, Mum's GTI, or even Dad's bi-xenon equipped Q7... it's a blind corner at night. No street lights, and the headlights point straight ahead.
With the R36, a gentle turn in the direction of the corner causes some kind of witchcraft or alchemy to happen somewhere ahead of the car and the corner lights up. Brilliant. it even works on gentle bends...
I don't think I could go back to normal headlights now, these are amazingly bright and clear and useful.
Oh, regarding insurance. Both parents are 60+ and haven't had a claim in... forever, I'm 23 and had one claim in 2005 when I hit a kangaroo. SGIC wanted $1500, Volkswagen Insurance (underwritten by Allianz I think) wanted $1600 but had 3 year new-for-old replacement rather than 2, and the excess was less, too. Ryno said I wasn't enthusiastic enough, despite our family owning 3 VW's/Audi's and a history of performance cars dating back 40 years.Dad even built one on the lounge room floor! I didn't bother with Shannons because I was too slack. I'm pretty happy with what we got and what we're paying, though.Last edited by Steve; 18-06-2008, 06:59 PM.R36 =

Looks the goods Steve
Now, a coupla questions. How is the handling: is it "jittery" or unsettled over rougher roads, or have the British reviews I have seen got it wrong?
I gets my sedan in a few weeks...I can't wait...
Have you tried transferring mp3's to the hard drive? Is that a straightforward process and do use an SD card or can you transfer from dvd? I assume playlists can be transferred as well.
Happy trails...

Well, I drove around a fair bit today and I'm very impressed with the handling and ride quality.
The ride is great - similar to the GTI, but it feels more grounded over rough roads. Bumps and drain covers and small children are felt but aren't intrusive - there's enough feedback to be meaningful, but there isn't so much feel as to result in a sore arse or back after a short drive. I would happily drive this between capital cities. It's great. more comfy than the GTI? Maybe. The wheels are bigger and the tyres are bigger and lower profile but I reckon it feels nicer over the black stuff.
Transferring music to the hard drive is easy. I didn't bother reading the book and it took about 30 seconds to figure out.
I stuck the DVD in, and played it... then started screwing about. just hit "selection" and then the list looking button next to each folder then "copy" then suss it out from there... very easy
Clare will have to wait until next Wednesday... it won't get much of a drive tomorrow but I'll see what I can do over the weekend
