Well it seems that VW Aust are reactive in their offerings, not proactive, so the more people that want & talk about either the TDI 176 4Motion or the 206TSI 4Motion to the dealers & enquire to VW Aust, the more likely it is that one of these models may come hereMY18 Golf Alltrack 135tdi - DA pack, SL pack without sunroof, Info pack : tungsten silver

Last year I had a deposit paid for a B8 wagon ages ago, but turned that into a deposit for an Amarok when I decided I wasn't interested in waiting until 2020 (or thereabouts) for VW to make another interesting Passat. Basically, I had written into the contract that I was only interested if the car had a petrol engine with more than four cylinders and had all wheel drive.
About five minutes after I signed the paperwork, the state sales manager walked in to the shop and we talked about what I was hoping would be made. He said he'd pass it on, and actually called me a while later to say that he spoke with VW Australia and passed on what I was interested in - so they have at least one EOI for something more interesting than what's currently offered. I told him that the ultimate would be an R25 - an RS3 engine in a Passat wagon
In my case, VW's persistence in not "poaching" sales from Audi has backfired. I'd have been all over another interesting Passat but I'm not interested in the RS4 and can't afford an RS6. My C63s wagon is being built in December - that should scratch the itchR36 =

Yeah, not holding my breath for a true performance car here because the numbers wouldn't add up. It would be a niche product at best which could cannabilse sales from such offerings over at Skoda and Audi. What irks me is that New Zealand has 7 variants of the B8 Passat on offer including the Bi-TDI 500Nm R-Line! Alas, the medium car segment is relatively small and subdued in Australia, so economically speaking it makes sense for Volkswagen Australia to offer a limited range of variants with the new Passat. Direct competitors like the Ford Mondeo, Toyota Camry, Mazda 6 and Subaru Liberty are also limited in the number of variants on offer to us, so the Passat will follow the same business model. A Bi-TDI 500Nm R-Line Passat at over $60,000 would be left sitting on dealer lots which is just not viable. Perhaps that engine will be reserved for the next CC? Despite this glaring omission, I'm still looking forward to next month's release.MY22 Volkswagen Arteon

The R36 was immensely popular for the short time it was available, and none of VW's main competitors currently offer any go-fast variants - Subaru has dropped the Liberty GT and all Liberty wagons, and there's no guarantee that the Grovel will arrive with the Rex engine, and even if it does, CVT? Eugh. This is a golden opportunity for VW to corner the premium go-fast mid-size market. If they don't, I reckon they're going to lose R36 buyers to Skoda with their 206kw Superb.

Exactly Kleung. The R36's were quick due to the aid of gearing as well. I dont know if alot of you remember but back in 1992 Ford released a weapon of a car that threw the gauntlet down to the v8's of the time. The XR6. It did the dash in 7.8 seconds when everything else was over 8, including its bigger brother the XR8. The reasoning, gearing. The XR6 had a shorter final drive which gave it its zip, just like the R36's i would presume. Funny things can be done with gearing to get something to accelerate quickly.
Just wish they would do it to the Passat!
Ps. My old man had one of those first XR6's, the EB, and it was a weapon of a car for its time. Dad was going to get an eight but the six was quicker os he got that! He then traded that on an EF which to this day i rate in my top five cars that my family has owned.Last edited by snerlo; 21-09-2015, 07:01 PM.2013 Touareg V8TDi - Black, LED Interior Mods, LED Projector "VW" Door Courtesy Lights, 20" VW Mountain Rims with A/T Tyres, Pioneer SX Roof Platform with some 4x4 accessories and a whole lotta torque

I posted this snippet in the Golf R wagon thread as reported today in Goauto. Being this is the Passat forum however, forget all else except the sections I have underlined & coloured.
For now, the German car-maker's hyper wagon will be the flag-bearer, with the freshly released R Wagon only available in styling-enhanced Wolfsburg variety, priced from $58,990 before on road costs, but will herald more tweaked VWs. Speaking at the launch of the new Golf R Wagon, Volkswagen Group Australia communications general manager Karl Gehling told GoAuto “we are looking to offer Wolfsburg editions on other premium models in the range,” but a non-Wolfsburg R wagon was also under consideration.
“We would certainly consider it. The interest in the car is good to see and we will investigate if we can offer additional variants. We’d certainly be looking at whether or not we could extend beyond the Wolfsburg edition.”
With a lack of high-performance wagons in the Volkswagen range since the V6-engined Passat R36 was discontinued, Mr Gehling said that the new offering was generating significant interest.
“It’s a special edition with restricted production for the Golf R Wagon so our biggest concern is the number of vehicles we will have available to us. At this stage we have over 300 but we are trying to secure more because we have much more interest in the car. We haven’t had a performance wagon in our line up since the R36. That was a very successful model for us and this is a return to offering that nice balance of performance and practicality.”........
Would the introduction of a Wolfsburg Passat include a performance engine & drivetrain (aka:206kw 4-motion). A light at the end of the tunnel maybe..?* MY12 B7 Passat V6 4-motion Highline wagon....

Such a pity that we don't get nice options, would be sad to go from my b7 v6 with lane/side/park assist, dynaudio, electric seats to a golf r with only 1-2 options.

Only one Highline Model listed on the Specification Summary that I got my hands on, & the Alltrack is due in 6 to 10 months, I wouldn't be surprised if they launch the 206kw TSI in Highline spec around the same time. Then they have 5 model variants.
