Hey I have a 2008 passat Wagon tfsi petrol. I have noticed oil in my carport so looked underneath and there oil leak looks like coming out metal housing bit but got no idea what it is. Looks near transmission.

Don't speculate, have it looked at properly. It could be a million things. One occasion I don't get to say have it scanned.

Alway follow the leak up. Could be the rear of the rocker cover etc.Comment

Could be oil filter/cooler housing.

It's a fair drip. Still need to take it somewhere and have it looked at. Could be split oil or something expensive. No way to tell from the photos.

Yep mate looks like rear main seal. If I were you I would ensure that there are NO leaks further uptop/anywhere else. Then you will need to remove the gearbox to inspect the rear main seal.Comment

Yep apparently the rear main seal is a pretty fragile/not great design and quite a common failure on the 2.0T engines.
