Brand new off the boat mate. The car is currently going through compliance as we speak.
I really wanted the Xenons as well, but there were simply none (not even any on the way over) available with the other options I wanted unless I got a Sunroof as well. Definitely don't want a Sunroof so had to deal with losing the Xenons idea unless I wanted to wait for 6 months+.

The price was including the Corporate Plus discount FYI.

Ahhhh .... the Corporate Plus discount. Pity I'm a private buyer. Oh well, I should be able to haggle something off the RRP. Enjoy your new car Dopey and let us know how you go with it.

Have you spoken to your VW dealer about the Corporate discount? Your employer may be registered with VW and therefore you may be eligible for the discount. If you haven't asked already, definitely make the enquiry! Private buyers are indeed eligible if the persons employer is registered for the discount

Buzy_Robot...I traded an 03 Mazda6 sport (looked great) for a 125TDI Passat 08 wagon. The big difference you will see over the petrol is TORQUE, make the car so much more pleasurable to drive, as that's what you'll do, drive heaps between visits to the gas station. Best car I've every had, great fuel economy and you never want for more power, unlike the M6 which was often breathless when you'd like some more go! Go the TDI I say!

Excellent feedback WestOiler125 - that's exactly the sort of useful info I need to know moving from a Mazda6 to a VW Passat. It'll be interesting to see what sort of changeover price I can negotiate. That's about 3 weeks away as work is full on at the moment!

I also moved recently from a Mazda6 (MY07 lux sport) to a Passat (MY09 CC V6). Whilst the Mazda was a great car and never missed a beat, I now appreciate the better built quality and finish of the Passat. I can't comment on reliability yet though as I've only had the Passat for 3 months or so.

Prior to buying the Passat I also drove a Skoda Superb diesel, which has the same engine as the Passat TDI. Whilst is was a nice smooth unit, with impressive torque and excellent driveability, I find the power of the V6 quite intoxicating. That said, I would have happily lived with a TDI and the only reason I ended up with a V6 is due to finding a very good low kay used example that fitted my price range. Would be hard to go back to less power now tho! Just don't ask about fuel

              Cheers,
              Scott

Consider Burwin, their service is excellent and competitive prices. A lot of the dealers that sell at the lowest price leave you unsatisfied when you have issues with the car! Good luck!

I ordered a new TDI wagon after shopping around. Dealers dont have huge margins but you can expect around $2500-$3000 if you bargain hard, depending on model/options

Thank you ScottyP, Rthirsty6 and jetfuel for your responses - much appreciated! I wonder how much of a marketing tool VW realise this forum is because one of the reasons I'm moving to the brand is the excellent advice and collegiality found among the members here.

I've heard good things about Burwin as well and although they're a long drive I would consider them if the price isn't right from the dealers nearest to me ie. Essendon, South Yarra & Werribee.

Bargaining between $2,500 to $3,000 is what I would expect if a dealer seriously wants my business.

I'll certainly keep you guys posted. Thanks again.

My dealer reckons that there's good savings on the Passat. You shouldn't really have to argue for a good price - if the dealer you go to doesn't want to play ball then go elsewhere. I guarantee shopping around (even calling around) will land you the car you want at the price you want eventually. Well, unless you're being unrealistic that is.

Once you go VW Diesel you won't want to go back to a normal engine. Having the torque down low makes daily driving so effortless and much more enjoyable - not to mention the economy is sensational. I used to like lazy V6 engines for daily driving but VW Diesel engines have certainly changed my mind.

Why don't you use a car broker? It will save you thousands of dollars as you get fleet discount. I just been quoted >$7000 discount on the Passat 125TDI. It's brand new, factory order (as I got $7800 worth of options).

My friend went through broker as well after my referral, he got the basic Passat 118TSI $38990 drive away.

I don't buy any car with less than $4000 discount, except small cars like Honda Jazz, which I still got $2800 discount

You must be talking about fleet pricing to get over $7000 off. I understand that a stock 125TDI has well less than that in total margin.

Good suggestion VAG newbie, but I need to trade in my current Mazda6. Of course, I could try and sell privately and then go through a broker, but I don't have the time to sell it privately. Unfortunately, I'm not eligible for fleet discounts, so have to approach the Passat purchase as a private buyer.

In response to Dopey's post on the previous page about corporate discounts - I've checked and unfortunately, the company I work for has not registered for corporate discounts on VW cars.

Good advice Dopey - always good to shop around.

As a guide, Redbook lists $30,500 as a dealer trade in valuation price for a MY10 Mazda6 Luxury Sedan with low kms like mine. Say the MY11 125TDI lists on road for $48,900 (with no options) and I think a changeover price of $16,000 would be realistic.

Dopey, I will test drive both the TDI and TSI, but yes, I'm leaning towards the TDI.
