Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    No
but if it does I will be hit with possible $3000+ repair
or just give in to VW's evil plan and buy the $1700 extended warranty.

Which means it could be better for me to sell the car before the new model comes out and get
hmm well... I don't know Golf TSI? or secondhand GTI even.
    why you ask?

I looooovvvvvvveee this car by the way.

Possibly, it all depends on what transpires over the next 2 years, VWA need to prove to me that they will support their brand, because as it sits today, they are treating their clients rather poorly.
Car failed on 1st Feb, in shop since 2nd, possibly get back on Friday 18th due to a fault that VWA knows all about!

Its gotta be cheaper to get the warranty, changing cars is just sooooo expensive with stamp duty, and the Golf is heaps smaller than the Passat.

          Yeah but GTI is faster.
or I could just get Honda Accord Euro and forget about unreliability and interior rattles... and start missing the nice interior and economy
          and the punchy torque surge.

Having said that the Euro is a great car - we had a Euro and a C180 (both new) at the same time. Both were the previous model. The Euro was a far better car all around compared to the Benz. Got to the stage where my wife wouldn't drive the Benz.

Just a comment if you do change.

All the guys here with failed injectors who HAVEN'T registered the details in Transporters' thread, above, should do so to try and help force VAG to sort out this issue properly.

Yeap, so much noise for nothing, I see only 4 cars failed.

As a follow up to my previous posts: I got the injectors replaced and all seems well again. I had the car towed to Lennock on Monday arvo and had it back on the following Monday. Lennock were quick to identify the problem and required no agitation from me. They also replaced the wiring harness on advice from VW. According to Lennock, replacement of all injectors and harness is VW policy for the fault. That said, the mechanic I spoke with did not regard the problem as inevitable and said it only happens to some TDI. The wiring may be part of the cause (can't comment, as I don't know enough about it).

The car is running really well. Bummed that this happened but relieved that it has been dealt with in a reasonable way. It was a welcome relief to be back in the Passat after slumming it in the 2001 Astra hatch (it's never broken down, so I shouldn't complain).

My thoughts are that possibly the only thing matching the unreliability of my car is the indifferent (ranging up to contemptuous) attitude of most of the dealers/service reps I've dealt with.

                      • Another one

Just found this forum for first time. My 07 (my08 upgrade) 125tdi died in middle of busy road last week. Still in VW workshop now, Burwin say need to replace 4 x injectors + loom. Car done around 60,000k. Lucky I purchased ext warranty . 3rd electrical problem in 12 months on this car, what else should I be expecting?

                            That is fantastic news.
Is there any additional info you recieved on the recall notice?
Does it include build dates / engine codes etc.
Or just specific to your vehicle.

VW has stood up and taken notice, WELL DONE!!!
