Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Is there any additional info you recieved on the recall notice?
Does it include build dates / engine codes etc.
Or just specific to your vehicle.

VW has stood up and taken notice, WELL DONE!!!
      Mmmmm....lets just wait and see.
Car is interesting post injector replacement and 60k service. DSG was quite rough for a day or two (jerky, rough downshifts), but is now silky smooth. However fuel consumption is in the mid 7's since injector replacement (about tank + 1/2), I hope that settles down!

I hope VW takes up the bill for you as your Passat is only just out of warranty...

If your car has a full VW service history, you should have grounds to get VW to come to the party and offer to pay at least half of the repairs. In reality, if you pushed the issue, I've little doubt anyone would argue that non servicable injectors shouldn't last a "lifetime" of the engine, and that is an angle people have used to great success. VW KNOW there is a problem, but typically they don't want to alert the public as it will cost a bomb. There is also the option of having injectors reconditioned in the UK, something I am working hard to try and get an actual definative answer to. In your shoes I would contact VW directly, and shop dealer to dealer, as some will be more willing to help than others, and the dealer who serviced the car should be most likely to help.

VW are very silly ignoring this issue, as I just read about a mum who had her injectors fail on the highway, and had to pull up without power assisted brakes and the steering was lifeless, and she had her 10 month old in the car. Thankfully she is submitting a report oficially about the danger, something I think more people need to do.

            • My warranty just ran out yesterday and I bought extended warranty from 3rd party for the fear of DSG and Injector failure... hopefully Swann insurance will cover the Injectors...

              • See the failure thread updates in the diesel section. The injector problem is VERY widespread. Sucks.

                • Ok, GREAT SERVICE from Solitaire VW Adelaide. All injectors and new loom done on 2008 TD 125KW wagon, yesterday - car home again (car flat bedded to them Monday). VW Australia approved DESPITE car being out of warranty (expired Jan 2011) , we are NOT original owners and last service (45,000km) was NOT done at VW.

We have bought cars from Solitaire (Landrover) before and sericed them there so they know us - but we are rapt with this result - all done within 3 days!!!!!!!

                    • What's your mileage? I heard people were saying around 30,000km. Mine is doing 24,000km. I had the same 08 TDI (out of warranty last month as well) but I took the extended warranty days before it expires just because of scary stories like this. Costing me $2110.

                        • Join the facebook page for the latest updates from around the world. Customers in the UK are being contacted and all injectors and loom replaced, plus reimbursement of prior injector failure costs. Wonder if that will ever happen here, but is set to spread through Europe in coming months hopefully.

Wife's 2007 103kw passat died on saturday, towed to epping volkswagen, they rang monday morning to say 1 injector was a dud & needed replacing. we had extended warranty so the cost was not an issue, we wanted all 4 injectors replaced as the dealer said if 1 goes it is just a matter of time before others may go. we asked him to see what they could do, he rang the next day to say he spoke to volkswagen & said they would cover the job of 4 injectors under the new car warranty, & that in future all b6 passats would have 4 injectors done this way with no cost to owners

                            • Good to hear, but you have to question WHY a worldwide fault, currently being actively sorted out in the UK, requires you to have a failure before you have any chance of it being looked at. VAG knows all too well there is a problem, yet they leave their customers out there driving around in timebombs. Not good enough VW, no wonder your reputation is slipping.
