Oh FFS don't buy the car if you're going to keep looking for problems that are not an issue.

That forum has:Members 535,993 and maybe a few hundred with problems (not even that many if you bothered to read)

My recomendation is to stay home tomorrow. If you don't, you could get struck by lightning, hit by a bus, die in an elevator, have a lawnmower blade from a neighbor mowing the lawn fly out and kill you... It's all just too risky. Of course if you stay at home you run the risk of the roof colapsing on you and killing you, falling debris from a satellite exploding as it hits your house etc. So maybe you should invest in a bunker. Although then you could run out of oxygen, food and water... Man you're screwed the more I think about it!

But I checked the VW 10 yr DSG warranty and, in fact, it is which is even better for potential DSG owners(in the USA!)

Some of those posts are about problems, many are other people commenting on the problems, other posts say they have zero problems, some are from people who clearly don't understand that DSG is a manual transmision, others are from people stuffing their cars up with mods and blaming DSG etc

                .
I recall reading somewhere that American consumers want to drive their car off the lot on the SAME DAY they make their purchase. Hence optioning up a car and waiting weeks for it to arrive does not work in that market. The norm is therefore llike how Japanese and Aussie cars are sold here - in various levels of specification, or packages.

Just when I thought this thread was starting to morph into something with useful information.

I honestly don't see the point of you coming onto the forum, ask a question about the reliabity of the DSG (fair enough), but then keep going on about it. At this point, you need to decide whether to embrace DSG and trust that yours doesn't fall into the 0.001% with issues, or look for something else.

ok you want troll eh? It is troll you ask for troll you get.
OMG DSG is so fragile it breaks down every 10km
there are at least 50% of people who have experienced problems with DSG
                      it's unproven technology after all

It was actually a rhetorical question

Something else to consider regarding the Americans, is a LOT of them never use a hand brake. They're taught in driver ed that it's an "emergency brake". They just park their cars in Park. Meaning the gearbox is holding it. So a 10yr warranty on a gearbox that's going to be used harder than an Aussie one is impressive. Also shows VW are confident in their product.

That's correct and the reason I've been given is that it is due to the cold winters they don't apply the handbrake in order to avoid getting stuck with brake mechanism freezing up.

And I'm sure you make it to work every morning. I had a few meetings cancelled / changed due to my yankee colleagues not being able to get their car out of their driveway due to the amount of snow and ice. There's cold, and then there's cold.

Living in Canberra, that explains why you're always so grumpy.
