ETKA shows all the variations produced globally. All of the 3.2 / 3.6 engine parts are together - they all show as "3.2/3.6 ltr 6 cylinder". The 3.2 is engine code AXZ, the 3.6s are BLV (I assume the lower outlput 3.6) and BWS (the R36 one). All together...
Given a VIN it will show you what exact parts are used... Definitely does Aus too - when I get them to put my VIN in to it, it shows all the 3.6 VR6 parts highlighted.
Know anyone with a 3.2 Passat - they can pull the bonnet and have a look...

argh too complicated i just remember reading a thread on uk forums about a guy swapping his dead mk4 r32 motor for the mk5 r32 motor with fsi...maybe uk is different...

As far as I know those p plater laws dnt apply in Perth and for peolple thinking I'm gonna hoon, the answer is no if I wanted to I'll get an rx8 but unlike other young drivers Im not full of confidence and not wiling to risk a car and my life to show them something "cool" which is pathetic if you think what the risks involved are, and for the driving lessons well let's just say I've been driving my sisters mini Cooper s for the last 6 or so months and while it's in my area I drive at round 3 in the morning to make sure it's clear of any cars and then again i dnt really even speed but really just practice fluent brake/go steering response if that makes sense

Hahah thankyou well guys believe it or not I started reading wheels magazines back in year 6, I've even started looking on drive bak then showing mum what car I want etc etc an really if cars didn't exist I would have no motivation to do well in life and that being said I would take care of my car and nt trash it like most p players do, your so very right about 17 year olds raging with testosterone and all my mates actually do hoon I don't know of one that doesn't and just watching them makes

most leaning on golf or passat as they won't be cars that will drag attention to not that I will be but like for example an 180sx s13 Silvia non turbo sr18de engine barely making 100hp at the wheels I think? Well will get pulled over 6x as much as a passat 4-motion with a v6 184kw engine:/
I honestly would choose a rx8 but I see my self more likely to crash in it and really Ive seen victiims of crashes and it ain't a pretty sight.... Maybe rx8 later down the track but for now I'd like a safe nt Slow car preferably either 4wd or fwd sorry to reply so late!
Ha ha, I remember reading numerous similar posts and reply on the WRX forums.... I didn't expect almost the same posts AND replies on a VW site particularly regarding a car perceived by many as "boring"!
My 2 cents worth:
1. The person posing the question states he is only 17yo but clearly has the intelligence to know his cars and do some research. Full kudos to him!
2. Not all 17 yo are hoons, though agree that at that age we all feel invincible and take risks that we don't dare to take later on in life. Hope he gets the point!
3. Hopefully the person posting the question will read all the comments... and not come to the conclusion that all our replies are jealously aimed comments by old fogeys (Disclosure: I myself am no spring chicken).
4. Yes, agree with comments you can kill yourself in ANY car. Hopefully the young gent will do an advanced driving course sooner rather than later and drive well within his limits on public roads...
5. Having said all of the above, as long as the law allowed him to drive it, I reckon the AWD Passat would be a great choice - he would be safe in the knowledge that he has one of the safest drivetrains in the planet. If anything, I would worry more for his mates who may try to copy the AWD car's abilities in their FWD/RWD cars! I would NOT get the turbo FWD car!
6. Finally, I can't help to think that this post (like most others before it) are written in the third person, as if the original poster is too young for us to address him directly! So if you you are reading matto247, my huge apologies! My simple straight answer is that yes, 4 motion is worth the extra $$$. I myself opted to buy a Passat with 4 Motion (having previously come from an AWD Subaru).

Actually, thinking again about your post again, I could not help to think that VW doesn't actually have a naturally aspirated (n/a) 4 cylinder AWD sedan or hatch (am I wrong about this anyone?)
In which case, I would actually recommend that you have a look at a n/a AWD 4cylinder Subaru Impreza or Liberty.
Why you ask? Well you will get the benefits of AWD but not all that tempting power....
An AWD car WILL give you greater confidence in the road (particularly in the wet) but as per other comments, you still have to be careful as braking distances etc are still essentially the same.
I guess thinking about you, a n/a non AWD Golf would definitely be a relatively "sensible" but still chic car that would be a cut above those hoons' cars (and girls usually dig them too if you care about that!).
Problem is I won't be getting another car until I start working which i think would be more then 7 years if I end up getting into chiropractor and then taking neurology afterwards back to my point i don't want a slow uncomfortable impreza:/ although I have looked at the libertys and for a decent one I could get a passat instead I took into consideration of what someone said up there the Polo gti which is around 0/100 in 8secs, slower then the mini Which I'm prty much used to, but have tonnes of options and I can get 1 a demo for like 25 on the road and they look pretty cool in my opinion

matt i bought my son the polo 1.4 and he's quite happy with that except for the power ( haha my plan ). Head to head with a 2yo mazda 2 genki the polo is much better .
They handle really well & are very balanced and more "fun" than the passat for sure. the GTI would be a hoot. Golf also but you'll be spending more. Save your cash at this stage i reckon.
sounds goood! yes well had a talk to mum again and she prefers the golf cos its more roomy and well dont know why but she insists of having more room for everything, really suspect she has OCD LOL i kid i kid, but yeah i found a nice golf gti on carsales if u find it, its white and with lenso rims, not a real big fan but the interior is LOVELY and comes with premium speakers, sat nav etc and even though id prefer the DSG, more then happy with a manual=)

If this is still something of interest, I have a 3.2 V6 and am happy to help, but I'm not sure exactly what ETKA is, or indeed where to find the engine code... Happy to send the appropriate person my VIN if that would work.
