  • TDI Passat 2007 MY2008 DSG problems..

Long time observer and first time poster....
I've purchased a 2nd hand Passat TDI 125kw wit DSG gearbox 2 weeks ago and I really hate the way it takes off,not too bad when cold but when it warms up it gets quite uncomfortable especially when crawling in traffic and when reversing up on our driveway,it jerks quite a lot and to me it looks like it can not decide if it wants to be in 1st or 2nd gear.I am so embarased about it so I dont let any of my friends or familly to even go for a test drive.Anyway took the car this morning to the dealer for checkup and when he booked the car in he said that DSG Passats 2006 to mid 2008 are all like that , a bit jerky. The were kind enough to give me a loan car,at no cost,2009 Passat with DSG and he told me that this model has different DSG and that I can not compare it with my one(can anyone confirm that it is true) but this one was smooth as and totally different car to drive.
Would anyone that owns(everyday driver or an expert and i've seen quite a few pepole here with enormous knowledge) a Passat of that age be kind enough to share their own experience with DSG and if anyone can confirm that DSG on my car is different to current 6 speed DSG and if they can be compared.

Sounds like the mechatronics unit has had it to me...

I had exactly the same behaviour from my A3 2.0 TDI...

It will most likely be covered under warranty. The service dudes will probably attempt a software reset and when that doesn't work (and it almost certainly won't), they'll then replace the mechatronics unit.

I was without my car for a week, but you should get a loan car....

    Good luck

        Hi Dub,

The new mechatronics unit transformed the car making it much smoother and passenger friendly. No jerkiness when reversing uphill and no hunting for gear. I sometimes still got a slight jerk from stationary which I am not getting with the .:R36, but it was fine....

we have the MY09 125kw and its never had an issue. i also have a mate with a 2007 103kW DSG and he has never had an issue. So i would keep trying to get this improved or sorted out. many threads have shown people get the mechatronics module replaced U\W. Good luck!
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Just got a call from the dealer, they've requested new mechatronics module from VW and it was approved,he said it'll take 6 to 8 weeks

hmm- very slow. I think mine on the Audi took a week or two to source

Good thing they have agreed to rectify it though...

Yeah this topic is very common with owners of VWs with DSG boxes. There is a very helpful topic here :

I suggest one of the moderators put that up as a sticky? Maybe change the topic a little bit to DSG problems or something?

Dubrav - I had a mechatronics unit replaced a few months ago in Melbourne and it was about 3 weeks ex Germany, so 6~8 sounds like a long time.

But then again, maybe they have run out......

Yes i know 6- 8 weeks is a bit long but at least they'll do it without me having to fight for it.I work in service myself but for marine company and for some reason on quite few occasions we had to wait months for parts to be built, looks like no one wants to have a lot of stock at the moment.I also have to mention that service that I got from Denlo was pretty good whatever dealer that I bought the car from and service people promised they delivered on it which I didn't expect from a car dealer lets hope that they continue with good service.

                      Same experience here, dubrav.

OK at first, once warm it's rather embarrassing, and I take offence when my brother-in-law questions my driving abilities !!

Mentioned it at the 30k service. Software reset resulted in a (perceived) improvement - for a while.

Have booked 45k service next week, and have already indicated that we need to have a bit of a closer look.

Once moving I'm very impressed, it's just the stop-start situations, and the reversing. Mind you, it's not just a question of "comfort" for me but also the issue of potential damage to the drive train. The "clutch engagement" at times resembles an instantaneous mechanical connection, like putting two cogs together.

Anyway, as you can tell I'm rather too patient but will get it sorted this time.

Good luck with your new unit!

                      Regards,

dumb question here but what exactly is a "mechatronic unit" and how can you tell if you need a new one?

The reason I ask is I get a small, hardly noticable vibration at times but no big jerks or anything like that....
