  • Got your R36 vin # yet ? Possibly BAD news if not

Today my dealer rang me (2 weeks after his last update) and gave me some bad news

I ordered the car in the first week of July and was told October delivery. Initially I was told a week 34 build but the next call blew it out to week 40 !!! The latest update is week 42 with earliest expected delivery mid December.

The reason (supposedly) is due to the backlog. Has anyone else been told a similar tale of woe ? GFC ? Obviously not for VW

    I reckon I could order a Bentley faster !!!

Hmmm ! Makes me wonder the same I ordered my R36 last day of June and was told 4 months. Spoke to my salesman 2 days ago asking for the VIN and was told that it is build at the moment and should have a VIN anyday and he also said depending on the boat, it will probably blow out an extra two weeks so mid november.

Anyone interested in a group charter for a plane, to fly the F@&kers here.

I know I can get the spec and colour I want mid september but without the auto tailgate which I really want. As I know there are some on the boat at the moment.

      Glad mine's on the boat!

Did you order an unusual spec Vossy? I got a everything I wanted and the bonus of the tailgate (which I would happily have passed on).

Ordered 3 weeks ago, got a VIN a few days ago and ETA Melbourne 04/10

          I got my VIN.

Remember that your dealer can pull a fast one on you and the car you ordered may be sold to a higher bidder.

They'll keep you on the leash; so it pays to not try to screw the dealer too much on cars which are high demand and short on stock.

            Hoy !!!!

Precisely why I was annoyed about someone using me in their negotiations with my salesman. The salesman was disgruntled & that may not be helpful to me.

I ordered the 1st week July and you know my story. Another member here apparently has the vin etc but his car has now missed 2 boats

Another member here ordered a month earlier and his is on the boat and earlier than expected so it is hard to know what the accuracy of anything is

That's why it is important to get hold of the VIN for your car ASAP. That will make it much harder for the dealer to get away with selling your order to someone else and getting another one built for you (later).

AFAIK the VIN is allocated (and therefore available to the dealer) when the car is scheduled to be built, which may be up to 2 weeks before the physical build commences.

You lot should be glad you're not getting the delays the Mk6 Golf with 1.4 engines are - something of the order of 7-8 months backlog !!!!! I think there is a problem keeping up with demand for some reason.

                      I want that!

However I want it to close when I pull the button on the driver's door... as well as the key fob remote contraption.

Depends on where the boat has to call into before it gets to your port. Mine left on or about the 17th of last month and arrives in Melb on the 2/10.

Its currently traveling down the west coast of south Africa!

My V6Highline landed in Brisbane 7:58 Sunday morning and currently on the wharf. Spoke to Patricks yesterday to see if my Brother who works for Toll can pick it up and the answer is no....BUT will be at the Dealer by the 11th at the latest. Total time from the day of signing up was just shy of 6 months.

A car can not be collected from the wharf as it has to be complied and certified by VW Australia and also inspected, books added etc
