like many who've already posted this thread i'm still waaaaaaiting for my R36.

I'm hoping someone could help me out with my VIN issues. The one I was supplied with by me dealer is apparently missing some digits. I've got the full 17, BUT there's a few Z's in the first 9 digits. Google seems to suggest that these Z's are filler characters rather than true code. It also seems that these first 9 digits just code generic information such as model, body shape, build year etc, with the last 6 digits being the "unique" identifiers.

Sooo... if that's indeed the case then I was wondering if someone could help me out with the first 9 digits of the R36 general VIN code as my dealer is clueless. Clearly I don't want anyone publishing unique identifiers to their VIN in an open forum so if I'm mistaken about the "generic" nature of the first 9 digits please let me know. Happy to be PM'd if that would be more appropriate too. For what it's worth, the first 9 digits I was given are WVWZZZ3CZ, so I'm hoping to fill in the Z's.

Any help would be fantastic! Not getting envious of those already tracking theirs of course
The 'WVWZZZ3CZ--------' is the correct format for your Passat R36 VIN. The ZZZ are the characters that will be in your VIN.

Found that my car is currently in Southhampton (on TOREADOR) and due in Port Kembla on 4 October... It is stopping in on MEL on 2 Oct so guess that a few of us waiting have cars that are already friends.

I just got my VIN from the dealer and after Mr Google decoded it for me, I was pleased that it is a MY10... Given that it was already consigned when I ordered it, I was expecting it to be a MY09 - gotta have one small victory in this tedious process...

I too am getting all sorts of pressure from the dealer for after market protections/treatments... Given how hard they are selling it, I am concerned that it is just a way to build their margin...
Your car isn't in Southampton its currently near the bottom of the western side of South Africa at the moment and due into East London in South Africa on the 12th. So its closer than you think

          1 No idea

2 All depends on when you get your VIN.
IIRC The VIN is allocated when the car is scheduled to be built.
          Then the car is built,
then it is booked onto a ship,
then you can look it up on the shipping tracker.
Once it is unloaded off the ship in Oz it then goes off the radar until Patricks deign to deliver it to your dealer (I'm pretty sure VWA don't pay Patricks for a "premium service" )
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

OK.... finally our car has surfaced on the tracking site. Onboard the "Glorious Leader", scheduled in Melb around 20th October. Actually taken nearly 3 weeks since it's build date to finally come up. The GL has just left ZEEBRUGGE 2 days ago.

Now... hopefully good news for other R36 waiters.... if WVWZZZ3CZ------ are the identifiers for R36 model specifically then it's a case of "All Aboard!" as there's a shed-load of them coming with ours on the Glorious Leader
