Indeed I did .... no argument there

If it were me, I would have been glad to help another dubber out, rather than ragging on everyone for using the information you posted on a public forum.
I look forward to your full disclosure of what you paid, the salesmans name & what dealership you got it from. Surely you wont have a problem with that ? I posted the info to help members of this forum - I got several PM's from ppl who wanted further details & I referred them to another forum member who had a relationship with the salesman.

It probably makes no difference at all ---- common courtesy would be to ask me if that info could be used publicly. My issue is with the member (or guest) and their lack of manners.

Why? I couldn't give 10 poopoos if somebody said "A bloke called Kryten on the forums paid $58k for his pirelli, I want that price too"..

Wouldn't you do the same if you were in the market for a car and you'd heard of a bloke/mate who got a good price?

I don't see the big deal? It's not like you suffered any form of loss?

Is that enough of a "flood" for you ?

Seriously though, that bloke shouldn't have used your name, but as others have said, you gained a benefit from seeing what others have paid, and really that is all this guy was doing for himself.

I'm guessing you prefer to keep your financial dealings private. Did you know that in most states if I have your address I can tell you how much you paid for your house ? It is recorded whenever the title changes hands.

Yeah plus they get rebates and all kinds of stuff that's not shown on their "cost" price.

Can I have your approval to reply to this thread, given that it's based on information you posted in the first place?

I think by passing this information on, its implied the person was going to use it.

Go have a look at the Tiguan page. One of them has put together a spreadsheet of 32 of those boys (and girls) cars, which options they've bought and how much they paid. A great number of those have said which stealer they got their car from.

That's what this forum is here for. For us VW enthusiasts to help each other out.

BTW $26,900 OTR for my Dec '06 Polo GTI from John Hughes Victoria Park. Tell 'em Markybhoy sent ya!

Let's all step back for a minute take a deep breath and cool down and then come back.
I think we can all learn and take something away from here.
                      1. This is a public forum anything you say or reveal about yourself can be read and used elsewhere.
                      2. If you send someone a PM with information that you wish to keep private be sure to stipulate this. What you might think this is obvious or common courtesy it is not always apparent to others that this is the case.
                      3. If you are going to use information that someone has sent you in a private PM, it would be polite to ask the person if you can use specifics in your negototiations as opposed to ballpark figures.
                      4. Dealers don't like us talking to each other as it eats into their potential for profit.
                      5. If you're going to try and negotiate a price name dropping won't necessarily get you anywhere.

I doubt anyone did this with malice or to purposely anger the op or dealer but were simply trying to get themselves a good deal. Obviously this isn't going to work with this particular dealer now. Live and learn for everyone.
                      Cheers,
                      Trent

Tell the dealer to go and sod off... those guys, especially in the large dealers will do anything to make the most from a sale. No one is forcing them to give the discount or to take the business, regardless of the margin. If he was so peaved he should have said no and then the buyer goes to another dealer.

I agree maybe the guy on the forum should have been a little more discreet but at the end of the day what makes one persons ability to get a better deal than someone else a fair cop. How many times do people walk into a dealership and get stiffed over a price, most of the time id say! For example, my father wouldnt have a around pricing, he simply asks the price and says yes and no. So on a recent deal I told him to get a price and give me a call. I rang the dealer, checked the specs and then asked for a discount, without a prompt further to guy dropped the price $2400, over the phone!

If the dealers didnt always vary the price and it was fixed then none of this nonense would ever occur in the first place. Would they sell any less cars... of course not.

The dealer should have been ringing to thank you for the business!!

I referred someone to the the dealer I bought my car from, told him the price and the dealer sent me an email to thank me for the reference!

Hello. My name is Kristopher Nielsen. I am 29 years old and live in Canberra. I bought my Volkswagen Passat R36 Sedan from Gerald Slaven Volkswagen in Belconnen (in Canberra). It is Biscay Blue with factory Sat Nav and Sunroof as the two options. John was the name of the salesman. I can't recall his surname however he is the only John in Volkswagen new car sales at that dealership. I ended up negotiating the price to $70,000 drive away. I recommend anyone in the ACT goes and speaks the guys at Gerald Slaven Volkswagen if they're keen on buying one, any model for that matter.

Seriously... Give a flying "sexual intercourse"?!

I have to admit I'm getting to the point where I believe this thread is going nowhere and just degenerating. But in the interest of not "over-moderating" Does anyone feel strongly that this thread should be left to continue?
