Man am I pished off !!!!!

Yesterday the dealer I bought the car off rang me and said that someone from this forum used MY NAME and MY QUOTE and THIS FORUM to try and negotiate a similar price for themselves. Both I & dealer were well pi**ed off

So if the asswipe who did that reads this then an apology is well in order.

I gave out that info to find out if my offer was any good and then to also assist others in ballpark figures that dealers would consider.

The final negotiation is up to the buyer & they did NO help to themselves by taking that approach & did no favours to this forum either.

I will be far more circumspect in future

This is crazy..there are so many factors involved in getting a deal... what were they thinking? It's not like they are bouncing Bing Lee against HN for some 2k LCD TV!

IMHO the dealer needs to get over himself. A negotiated price is not a trade secret nor is it commercial in confidence, and if anyone publishes on here what they got their car for then that information is now in the public arena. I tell you now if any of my mates buy an R36 they'll be going in knowing what I paid for mine... If the dealer isn't prepared to sell at a price he's not obliged to do so regardless of what he sold to you for. I don't see the big deal, nor do I think that a car dealer has any right to get on a high horse about dodgy negotiation techniques... they are hardly paragons of moral virtue.

It's unfortunate that he dropped your name in it, that I grant...

I should add that I have no idea who it was...

I don't see the problem with doing that, if you didn't want it used in that way you shouldn't have posted it.

There's too much BS involved in buying cars, the dealers are full of it and many will screw you over given a chance and here we have one who has a sook when the tables are turned and someone dared to come in with some research on prices.

These dealers wouldn't last long in the USA with cost prices for dealers available freely on the internet so the dealers can't pull their little stunts to pressure you into a sale.

I'd have to agree. If he gave that price to you, he'd give it to 100 others.. He was probably just acting pissed off to strum you along.

Truth be told this bloke probably got an even better deal.

No biggee I say. The dealers aren't the victims, if they don't wanna sell for any given price - they're not obliged to. I'd be happy to post what I paid for my car.. Which unfortunately wasn't that great a deal.. I think I got a free bag of burger rings or something.

In fact, if I was you I'd be ringing up the dealer demanding a spotters fee.

What really annoys me is that the ppl who PM'd me I referred to another member on this site as the salesman was his "contact". My original quote was from another person in the dealership.

I think that commercially they probably dont want 'other' dealerships knowing what they are doing in terms of pricing

I dont have an issue with the morality of car salespersons debate & also dont have an issue that they are under no obligation to match or better the offer they made me. I dont have a problem disclosing what I pay for something (with provisos) if I am asked BUT i have a problem with people using my goodwill in disclosure attempting a benefit without asking if it is OK with ME - I am not a buyers advocate by trade.

I explained that originally I asked (posted) here whether it was a good deal on the quote I had. That is fair and reasonable .... I also replied if ppl asked what I ended up paying .... that gives potential buyers from this forum guidelines. I dont see that I ever gave permission for MY identification to be used in someone elses negotiation

I don't get what your dealer is having a sook about I used the prices of what other people got there car for when I went in though he turned it on me and still managed to rip me off (won't fall for that next time) what would he say if you sent one of your friend his way knowing what deal you got??

though I agree they shouldn't of used your name specially as they don't know you.

Did he say if he sold it at the same price or better?

He says that he could not currently sell at the price he sold me the car. As I said - I think that the issue is that the dealership does not want their pricing available to other dealerships.

I agree. I think it is a laugh when the salesperson pretends you are getting such a good deal that they ask you to not tell anyone else how much you are paying. It is all just stuff they do to maintain their profit levels as high as possible, and keep you believing you got a "great" deal.

My favourite is when it all gets so serious that the salesperson escorts you over to their manager and shows you on "the computer" that they are only making $250 (insert your own amount) on the deal, and that's why they can't possibly go any lower. I wouldn't be surprised if they do that to something like 80% of the customers who show any interest in negotiating a decent price and have done some homework.

I know it happened to me with both the last two VAG vehicles I bought (different salespeople, different sales managers). How many of you have seen that screen ? As if I don't know that there is a whole lot of back door stuff going on, and their "cost price" is just another form of RRP (only lower). I continued to negotiate, reducing their $2,500 delivery/prep fee to (IIRC) $500.

Hahahah - yep have been shown the screen and given the "poor dealer only making $27.56 on the sale" with the last 4 car's I've bought, including the R36

With the R36, not only did I get the screen, but he re-wrote it down on a bit of paper how badly I was screwing them. Of course he screwed up the paper and threw it out before I could ask for it....

but yeah I totally get why you are pissed off using your name not cool, but in no way should the dealer be having a go at you

Granted, ID'ing you and referencing the forum wasn't very smart, but I think the sharing of prices paid and deals received is EXACTLY what these forums are about: bringing a little transparency into the market.

Sorry, I have absolutely no sympathy for the dealer and nor should you. If you want to observe something rather unpleasant, listen to a car dealer talk about the "wooducks" whom they've reamed for full RRP, then added exorbitant finance and insurance, and to top it all off, had the "extras" girlie dud them for another $2k in paint and interior "protection"

i agree that your name shouldn't have been used.
but i also agree with others that your quote is open slather, as is anyone else's that have been posted on here or elsewhere.
if they dont want to repeat the price then they dont have to. same as we have the right to say no to their price.
