I've not managed to make a decision yet but need to as lease runs out this year.
I'm yet to see a white R36 but did manage to test drive a A5 Sportback today.
Bloody heck for $101k it was just so bland.
Yes it did everything expected of it but then so does a fridge.

Certainly highlighted what good comparitive value the R36 is.
So the R36 is back on the shortlist along with a (don't laugh) HSV Clubsport
I saw the recent advertising on the A5 sportback and I must say, it is probably the only real competitor to the VW CC, being a 4 door coupes of sorts - the Merc CLS is arguably also a potential competitor but is way too expensive.

Having driven the A4/A5 in various guises though (though not the sportback), I agree that (imho) they are a little bland to drive and overpriced.

I won't laugh at you for considering the HSV as I myself drove a Senator a while back and was seriously considering a Ford G6ET (among many other cars) prior to jumping on the VW Passat CC. The Aussie cars are relatively good value, but I could not get past their inconsistent interiors and lack of that german "feel good" factor. The VW also felt just as fast as the aussie cars but felt far more secure / substantial on the road - I liked the fact that it had AWD too. The tech in the VW wins hands down even though the aussies have made leaps in tech.

I don't know if you have looked at the Passat CC, but if you were interested in the A5, I would definitely check out the V6 version. It is one stylish car. Same engine as the R36 too.

At the end of the day, it is going to be up to you and there are merits in buying a HSV as there will be with a VW. But for me - be warned - I would NOT buy a HSV brand spankers before you check out the resale value of a 2 year old one!!!

Not to mention the two year old ones look better! Hahaha!!!

Plus you can buy some AWESOME second hand VE HSVs at the mooment. Supercharged, lumpier cams, re-tuned for a LOT cheaper than a brand new stocker. They're a whole lot of fun too...

Just read your post from August, my previous car was an A3 sportback and although I loved it (only because it was a diesel, didn't like the handling of the petrol) I needed a bigger car. So ended up in an R36 wagon and I like it a lot more than the Audi (apart from parking in tight spots). I did have the leather sport seats in the Audi, but the seats in the R36 are at least twice as good, especially on long (4-5 hour) trips. The adjustability is ace! You might want to consider test driving another one as the one you drove before might have had some issues. My car doesn't seem to have the flaws you descibed and most people on this forum that have an R36 will probably agree.
I believe the R36 is good value for what you get for your money, headlights, memory seats, engine, 4-motion, auto lights & wipers etc etc. In the end there is taste, purchase value, resale value and a half dozen other factors to consider. Do your homework and listen to people, then make up your own mind and go for it!

            Thanks
Got some good news today. Found out a dealer is getting a White R36 in next week.
Got an updated list of options from the dealer.
What would be a good price for a white sedan drive away with
            Sunroof
            Dynaudio with satnav
            Lane assist
            Adaptive cruise

Also can anyone advise if the last two are worthwhile options?

A "good price" is whatever you're happy & prepared to pay for it. and of course before the next guy locks in the deal on "your" before you do.

Good luck & happy negotiating! You'll love the car.

Addaptive cruise is the only option I wanted but it wasn't available on the R36 when I got mine. Only on the CC (which I was originally going to buy). If that car with those options was available when I got mine, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat!

Dealer said I'd have to order a car in the colour and options I want.
None of the dealers near me have any stock let alone a white one.
Why are stock kept so low?
Are the R36's not selling well , are they being phased out or is VWA trying to keep them exclusive?
Dropped my car in for service at the Audi Dealer and could see any number of A4's in all sorts of colour/combinations
Check if VWA are opening any new dealerships as they will have stock on order.
I was lucky to stumble across my Black 36 wagon late last year when a new VW dealership was opend in Brisbane. Lucky for me it was coulour and options i was looking for. maybee i should have bought a lotto tick on teh same day. Good luck.

                    Hey R34,

I've got adaptive cruise control on my current car and it's awesomely good. I drive a lot of country/freeway km's per year and I would never have another car without it. It's not good in stop/start city traffic, but on freeways/long country roads it really comes into it's own.

                    Cheers,

                    Dr Block
