Part number (from ETKA) is 3C5 860 251 for the sedan. Not sure on the wagon... I will see if I can find out.
why do some come with the triangle and some not? Surely it should either be standard fitment or not be, not some do, some don't.

My R36 Wagon came with the triangle in the tailgate.

If yours didn't why do you have to pay for the triangle? Surely it should be supplied by the dealer.

Same thing happened to a few MKV GTI owners, who didn't get the "bottle opener" as part of the centre cupholders. VW wanted to charge $30 for a replacement, but after a couple of phone calls, backed down and supplied them for free. They had a habit of being stolen whilst in the showroom, or being serviced/ washed etc.

    Just my two bobs worth.

I am confused (doesn't take much!!). Why are they in some cars and not in others.

I definitely did not purchase the triangle but it is definitely there.

          VWAG are a strange lot.

You are not the only one LOL... All I know is that many R36s DIDN'T come with them, including mine. I have sent an email to VWA asking them if it is supposed to be standard fitment in the R36, and if so, why I didn't get one.

Good Call re contacting VWA if it is important to you.

Response will probably be "we only fit them to the Real R36's, which are all Biscay Blue in Colour. Thank you for your enquiry."

                LOL...

I shall refrain from saying the first thing that comes to mind...

I think it's a worthwhile safety accessory to have, and the VW one would seem to be the most obvious option, given it will fit nicely in the recess in the boot lid.

If I have to pay ~$100 for one, then so be it. If I get it free then even better. Not the end of the world either way.

The triangle is only one part of what you need...

Factory Fitted Safety Warning Triangle -
                  - N90698606 - Bolt
                  - 3C58602859B9 - Mounting Bracket
                  - 3C5860251 - Triangle

                  - N90739703 Screws x4
                  - 811807577C Plastic Nut Inserts x4

The above is what you need. I did this back in June when this thread was started. I paid $94.40 for the triangle and $24.64 for the mounting bracket, the screws where cheap enough...

If you can get the above kit for less than $100, you are doing well.

Also the silver bit that I mentioned earlier I have discovered is an emergancy release if you are stuck in the boot. Just incase you wanted to know...
MY18 VW Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition + Panoramic Sunroof + some extra goodies... (Pure White)
MY17 ŠKODA Superb 206TSI 4x4 + Sunroof + Tech Pack + Comfort Pack + some extra goodies... (Moon White)

Yeah my MY09 R36 didn't have one in the top of the boot but it had all the mounting gear. I complained to the dealer and he grabbed the one out of a CC on the lot and apologised. Told me he'd just get another one for the CC and check them all as part of pre-delivery.

I seriously don't think that for a top of the line car, you should have to PAY for one of its safety features.

                      I'm definitely interested in one.

I asked the dealer about it and they said they weren't standard.

I'd love to get one even for $100 or so... so please count me in.

The R36 comes with the mounting bracket already. So it's just the triangle itself that I am missing.

Interesting info on the silver bit...

Noted... do you have the bracket to hold it already?

Yep the bracket is there with the rectangular recess.

VW Aus advise me that the safety triangle is not "standard equipment" but is available as an optional extra from my local dealer's parts department...

So those of you that got it included - congratulations. For the rest of us, we'll go and buy one LOL...

So Luminary, just you and me at the moment...

                                I'm definitely in.

I found this on the UK Passat Price List...

                                Touring safety pack
                                15.00
                                – First aid kit, warning triangle and safety vest
                                000 093 059

They have the first aid kit, triangle and a safety vest for 15 pounds! That's only $40 here.

The last number is the part number. I wonder if this kit is possible to get here. Probably not, but yeah even at $100 I'm in.
