So am I, it was just a bit too small and underpowered for me, and getting a bit old. (2002)

          LOL good work Jayse !

For those Vdubbers wondering why there's a defection from Subaru, just google the new one. IMO the current Liberty is very stylish, that's about to abruptly change so, you get used to the AWD, the 6 cylinder power and all the gadgets.
The new Subie will have a 3.6 but still be well under 200kw ??!!?? (to get more grunt you need the thrashy, nasty sounding 4 cylinder turbo model, no thanks) it will retain it's (very ordinary) 5 speed Aisin box (not a patch on the DSG) it's also not out until Sept which negates the KRudd 30% tax advantage currently on the table as a "probable".
This leaves two options, VW or Audi.
IMO the VW is the far better value for money so it's a no-brainer.
Most ppl seem to "graduate" from Subaru to VW, for me, I'm returning to VAG so I hope I'm making the right choice.

I'm heading more toward the black at this stage

The DSG is one of the best features of VW. I do not like autos because of their slushy disconnected feel to the road via the transimission/torque converter - along with the power robbing and economy issues - but DSG addresses all the deficiencies of an auto and yet gives all the benefits of a manual.

When I jumped from the Liberty 3.0lt Spec B to the 3.2lt V6 Passat there were many great features that VW added that were missing from the Suby:
            a) The wonderful DSG
            b) the torque which developed lower in the rev band so you don't have to work the motor as hard every time you start off. The motor is so much more useable and easier to drive in the Passat, whereas the Liberty motor was a bit of a chore.
            c) the gas strut on the bonnet,
            d) proper tie down hooks in the cargo area that don't break if you put the merest amount of pressure on them,
            e) the customizable features like 3 flash or 6 flash blinkers for changing lanes, coming home lights etc.
            f) The Passat doesn't use oil!!
            g) heated seats - nice on cold mornings with those leather seats!
            h) rear cargo screen for the cargo area that can be moved forward if the seats are down. A nice touch.
            i) rain sensing wipers
            j) auto lights

All the minor details are not much by themselves, but when added up they make for a car that is much better to live with than the Liberty 3.0 SPec B.

Now that I have the R36, well it's like night and day between the Passat and the Liberty!

Sounds like it'll live up to expectation then if even the 3.2 outperforms the Liberty.
I've only (briefly) driven the sedan and it's pretty hard in Bris to even find an R36 in a dealership so I haven't seen the R36 in black, is it the same finish as the standard Passat? or is it metallic? do they come in both finishes? I'll need to know to ensure they don't deliver me the wrong colour I'm guessing?
All going well and me making my mind up on the colour I'll order it tomorrow so any help would be much appreciated.

                  GHW,

The R36 comes with the Deep Black Pearlescent paint.

                  very basic idea:

                  Good luck with it.

                  Cheers,

                  Jayse.

I was lucky enough to see all colours before I made decision.
I said ill never buy another black car again till our eyes met at the dealership.
Then it was love at the first sight, I instantly forgot about the icelandic grey.
Just to let you my process of elimination. My initial thoughts were white, till i saw it at a dealership, solid colour didnt do it for me, need metallic finish.
Then I thought blue till I saw the icelandic grey, then I deciced to check out the black before I made a decision and Black it was.
Now Im just counting the days.

You guys are brave. I've had 2 dark grey cars and that was enough for me.
Black?? Looks great but you really need to spend time and effort maintaining the finish.
                        I'm gettin too old.

Sharif, black is definitely out for me but I'm interested how you say you've seen all the colours. Obviously silver didn't interest you...what was it about the Icelandic that you liked over the white, silver & blue? Is the Icelandic metallic? Does it make the R36 look like a tarted up Jetta or does it look pretty classy? I know the black looks "mean & ready to rumble" type of thing but I was after a slightly more classy looking machine befitting my old fart age rather than the "boy racer" image of the BBlue. What do you think?
