  • R36 Icelandic Grey or Reflex Silver?

Decided to put put some money down on a R36 just can't decide on a colour. I've seen a heap of the blue ones & also black so I thought best not to follow the masses with blue or black & try somethng else. The silver looks great in some pics I've seen on the R36 but i haven't seen one in the flesh. Seen plenty of standard passats in the silver & they look ordinary so was wondering if it looks 'special' at all on the R36. I've never see the Icelandic grey on R36 either. Anyone seen both of these to compare? What does everyone think?

    Welcome to the forum.

Never seen a silver R36 on the road...or even in a dealership for that matter.
There's a few guys on this forum with Icelandic Grey and I think it's a great colour.

If you don't like the blue though my first choice would be white. I've seen two in white and they're stunning. I'm sure "gead" would agree.

Whichever colour you choose you'll love the car.

      Agreed!

I first went into the dealer wanting a white one. The one in the showroom was blue and had two factory options (sunroof and sat nav). When I asked about a zero option white one, they spent a day trying to locate one and eventually told me I'd have to wait 14 weeks for one from Germany.

Suddenly, the blue grew on me... And after wheeling a dealing got a damn good deal and picked it up 3 days later with only a few showroom km on it. Suffice to say, I'm glad I got the blue now - it's a beautiful colour and IMO stands out enough while not being in your face.

So if you have to have a colour other than blue, I'd recommend considering white. Grey/Silver cars have never done anything for me. I think they look dull and boring - but that's just me.

But like Autopia said, regardless of the colour - you will love the car!

whilst all R36s are sexy cars. Ive seen a few silver ones on the roads here and they just dont seem to turn my head like a blue one does. I know its the most popular colour but I think the reason for that is cos its awesome!

As above white cars are all the rage these days. Im biased there though. That would probly be my choice if blue was definately wasnt an option.

Autopia, Tim, Rocket & all the other members, thanks for welcoming me to the forum. I've been watching (reading?) you guys chat from the sidelines for a couple of weeks & seems like a great group.

Please keep your comments about the colours coming...I placed a tentative order for a sedan so need to decide on a colour within next couple of days. One of my hesitations for the BBlue is that I'm coming out of an XR6 Turbo of a very similar colour (Blue/Shockwave) after nearly 3 years. I'll keep the R36 for at least 3 years & probably up to 5, so thats 8 years of same colour...

I like the Icelandic Grey - it's similar to a Merc colour called Tenorite Grey but the Merc version is metalic & looks great whereas the Icelandic looks a bit flat from the couple of pictures on here. I'm worried the Icelandic will make the R36 sedan look like just another Jetta (there are heaps around in a dark blue/grey although not exactly Icelandic). As for the white, I've see a Audi A4 S-Line in the exact same white & gee it looks good - I won't go for white this time around though.

            Look forward to your comments.

Hey Tim, you mentioned you've seen a few silver R36's. Were they sedans or wagons? Does the silver on the R36 at least look better (i.e. classier) than it does on the standard Passats?

              Thanks mate.

I think i keep seeing the same sedan. But maybe seen it a few times. To me it really didnt stand out from the pack that much at all. The colour just didnt do it justice. You kinda need to look twice to make sure its an R36

                The wheels are silver.
The chrome trim around the car is silver
                The front grille is silver.
                Everything is silver.

I think when making a nice looking car you need contrast. Thats why they look good in the darker colours.

Personally for me, I'm getting old and I didn't want to stand out too much, so I got the silver. I also liked how the chrome isn't as distinctive on the silver.

I've seen a silver sedan and it looked fairly good - subtle but definitely different to a normal Passat.

I rate blue (then again mine is blue) and white looks very hot, too... nothing wrong with Icelandic Grey either!
                    R36 =

Hi Raz, do you think from seeing them both in the flesh that the silver on the R36 looks better (i.e. classier) than it does on the standard Passats?

                      Any pics?

My order of colour choice, and the only colours I'd consider, is:

                          Blue
                          White
Black (3rd behind white only because it's so hard to keep clean)

Here are some reflext silver pics:

I've had the one black car everyone has once in their life, and this time I went for a silver one because of how much of a pain black was to look after.
I've had it for nearly a year now and only washed it 5 times. Compared to a fortnightly wash for the black car this one is pure bliss

If I had to pick the best colour of the lot though, black would win hands down.

saw a silver one (wagon) today, certainly blends in to the roadscape more than black or blue, but still looked pretty tough...
