R36 Icelandic Grey or Reflex Silver?

I'm with you on the "always looking good" bit. I've had 3 silver cars and they always managed to hold their appearance well between washes. Even the scratches are well masked.Originally posted by anthony View PostPersonally,I am a big fan of Reflex Silver.
The car will always look good, even if it is dirty or has a few scratches, and it is a classic colour, which works well for VW s ,with all their chrome trimmings.
I don't agree that silver works well with chrome trimming though. To me chrome is about providing contrast. It's intended to make the particular item stand out and against silver this doesn't really happen. The chrome gets kinda "lost in the mix" and it becomes almost pointless.
The contast provided by darker body paint makes the chrome look far more effective. IMHO

VASR36, thanks for the pics. Have you seen Icelandic in the flesh? Has it any metalic or just straight pearl effect? Is it on the gun metal side of dark or silver side of light? I know they are impossible questions but I rung around all Melb dealers today & not a single R36 or CC (only VW's that are available in that colour) that I can eyeball the colour.
Spec's of what I ordered are exactly like yours - SatNav, Roof, sedan. Worked out to bit over $69k on the road with what they called "fleet plus" discount. The sales goose threw in an umbrella for the driver's door & a boot liner. Sound system was fantastic as standard so I couldn't justify the extra $$$ for the Dynaudio. MDI seemed cool but I didn't bother since by the time you add GST, luxury car tax, bla bla bla it's well over $500 just so I can see the album, artist & track names on the screen - better spent taking the missus out for a posh dinner considering she'll still be driving her 'old' car! VW bluetooth is also crap - $500 plus GST & LCT for a system that doesn't interface with the screen so what's the point. Otherwise it's $1800 plus GST & LCT for the fully integrated system...bloody hell that's more expensive than what Merc charge. I'm going to install a Parrot bluetooth for about $550 which are fantastic (had them before).
What deal did you get?Last edited by evr; 05-05-2009, 11:02 PM.

Sorry slightly OT but I just noticed depending on left or right hand drive depends on which side the fog light is on, on the rear. Hmmmm... Wonder if I can order the right hand drive rear bootlid right hand side light module and get rid of the fog light?Originally posted by VASR36 View Post
Time to talk to my dealer I think... Two reversing lights and no rear fog light would be a LOT nicer to look at.

totally agree, i reckon silver passats dont make good use of the chrome. a medium/ dark grey or colour ( icelandic blue?) works wellOriginally posted by Autopia View Post

I agree. Who needs a bloody fog light anyway??!! Give me an extra reverse light any day!Originally posted by Rocket36 View PostSorry slightly OT but I just noticed depending on left or right hand drive depends on which side the fog light is on, on the rear. Every time I reverse at night, people say, "One of your reverse lights is out". I reply that it has one reverse light only and one fog light and then they look at me with raised eyebrow!

Metallic red sounds nice. Maybe even a metallic maroon or burgundy.Originally posted by tryingavw View Posttotally agree, i reckon silver passats dont make good use of the chrome. a medium/ dark grey or colour ( icelandic blue?) works well

In the UK (and a lot of Europe) it is law to have a rear fog light on all new cars. Since the largest Right Hand Drive market in the world for VW would be the UK, That's why we end up with a fog light on the rear.Originally posted by Lance B View PostI agree. Who needs a bloody fog light anyway??!!
There's no laws about rear fog lights having to be on a car, in any state or territory in Australia, so I'm going to seriously look into swapping it out. Would make the rear end look nicer I think.

Steady on Steve, my car is silver!Originally posted by Steve. View PostYeah, but a German car in silver just screams sheep/lack of imagination/lack of passion/boring person/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Interesting statistic, whilst on a Mercedes factory tour (Sindelfingen, Stuttgart) some years ago, they mentioned some stats about colours. I can't remember the exact figures but far and away silver was the most popular colour, it was somewhere around 50% of production. Must be a lot of us sheep/lack of imagination/boring person/zzzzzzzzzzzzzz types around!
Cheers

Mate the photo i posted is a overseas car, so my apologies i thought the icelandic grey was that.... sorry!!
As far as the deal i got, i got the same specs but at $66K with the MDI! You just have to go back and screw them harder
They will give in!
I just purchased also a Tiguan 147. Pick it up in 3 weeks. Traded in an Outback, they originally gave me 17K for it, finally got them to 22K and the Tiguan was 57K got it down to 51K, with all the trimmings apart from Dynaudio

Hi All,
Newbie to this forum and I'm in exactly the same boat !
I'm ordering the wagon Monday but can't decide between the grey and the black. My last 3 cars (Bora, A4 and currently Liberty) have ALL been black and I swore I'd never buy another one (just like last time, and the time before that...)
What do you think? Black with matt black wheels or Grey with matt black wheels? the only thing I'm sure of is changing the colour of the wheels.

GHW,
As a current owner of a black .:R36 wagon and a previous black Audi A4 owner...i feel your tortured pain...looks great clean, but a bitch to keep it that way!! As for Black with matt black wheels, i've been thinking of doing the same thing..but more on that later..
In times of uncertainty, when tough questions such as these need answering, i look to a great man for advice and i think...WWWSD???
That's right...What Would Wesley Snipes Do????
