Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Riddle Me This - EPB Amber Warning Light When Making Left Turn???

    Okay,

Has me stumped!!! EPB works - you can always hear it close/open when you press the button!

Now, I've checked this for several weeks in a row now to be 100% sure, and without exception, the EPB amber warning light will only come on when I make a left-hand turn!!!??? It doesn't always come on every single time I turn left, but when it does come on it is without exception when I'm turning left (not going straight ahead, reversing, turning right or sitting still with engine on)!

I clear the fault with the Foxwell scanner only to have it appear later again at some point (and always on a left-hand turn)!

The fault on the Foxwell scanner is always: 02433 Supply Voltage for Right Parking Brake Motor (V283) - sporadic 007 - Short to Ground.

Vehicle: 2009 Passat CC 2.0TDI (CBBB engine).

Has anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions?

There was a TPI for older ~2008 < vehicles with that error, but I don't think that applies to your car.

Start with the troubleshooting here 02433 - Ross-Tech Wiki

Check out the connectors on the motor that are in a pretty harsh environment.

Thanks for that MIG!!! The RH motor seems to work fine - I can always hear them opening/closing. I've had a bit of a look, but it looks like I'll need to take the rear driver's side wheel off and have a really good look! Maybe chafing/damage? If the wiring is damaged, does that usually necessitate a new motor?

The connectors and repair wires can be purchased via the dealer (They can be soldered and heat shrunk instead of crimping); the motor would not need to be replaced if it's just a cable.

The image above had a similar issue (Error logged in VCDS), motors would run, and the output test would show the correct voltage on the pins; it was only after moving it around did the wire fully came off the connector.

The faulty EGT sensor was replaced, and lo and behold, not only have the coil and check engine warning lights disappeared, but the EPB warning light has gone???!!! No EPB warning light coming on when I turn left! No EPB light at all. Everything working fine for just on a week now! Just weird!

Okay, a week later - travelled down the road this morning, turned left and... "Ding" - the park brake warning light came on! I'll have a good look at the EPB (driver's side) when I put new pads and discs on in 3-4 months time. So yes, too good to be true, and nothing could surely be that weird eh?!
