Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Turbo Inlet Elbow (Arteon)

    2017 R-line 206TSI Arteon

The Turbo Inlet Elbow from 034Motorsport has been installed for a few weeks now and I can say that it is worth the cost.

The install is extremely easy. The install was the same on my car as the videos online, except disconnecting the breather hose was much easier as my car had a connecter that can be pressed by hand to help the release.

I did not change the Turbo Inlet Pipe and stuck with the factory one. Previously, I had removed the snow guard and I have a N&N inline filter.

    Does it make more power?

I don't know but the videos with back to back dyno runs suggest it should.

    Does it sound different?

Yes, idle is slightly louder and normal driving the turbo is slightly louder but it is more like a whistle rather than a nice whooosh. It isn't bad but definitely doesn't add anything positive.

Under heavy load, you can't hear anything different unless you are driving past a concrete wall or tunnel.

    Anything else change?

Throttle response does seem better. I've previously done the VCDS audi mod and I feel like this added even more to the throttle feel.

The TIP (turbo inlet pipe) is a cheap mod I would recommend you do as well. It flows better than the stock pipe by a fair margin. Might squeeze a little bit more power that way. A proper CAI will add quite a bit more compared to the OEM airbox.

Interested in the Audi mod, I have heard of it before (might have researched and declined to do years ago) but could not find it quickly today, do you have alink to where it is?

Still love my 2018 R (same engine as your Arteon) and in its current state will keep it for a very long time to come.

Thanks. I'm not bothered to change the intake a stock pipe because I don't want it to look modded but I hear what your saying.

Audi mod in VCDS (might be different for your Golf R)

      1. 01-Engine
      2. 07-Coding
      3. Long Coding
      4. Change the drop down option in Bit 0-2 from "01 Manufacturer: Seat/Skoda/Volkswagen" to "02 Manufacturer: Audi"

Basically makes the throttle linear rather than curved. My car hasn't thrown any errors from it but some people online say it causes issues with Adaptive Cruise Control.

Perhaps, but a properly modded airbox is neck-and-neck with any aftermarket intake for any IS38 equipped car. Aftermarket intakes really only help with restrictions at Stage 3 levels with upgraded turbos etc.

Re: the Audi mod, the improvement is very minimal vs a throttle controller which is how the cars should have come from the factory. A marked improvement!
