Brake light on tailgate

Hi all,
Just wandering if anybody knows if the lights on a tailgate can be used as a brake lights , there is a part on a light that never comes on and i was wandering if it has LED module in there and if it can be used as a brake light.
I tried following Golf R guide but looks like its not the same.

I was talking about this part of a light...looks like its blank, like there are no LED's inside

I had a look at mine, and can confirm there are no LED's inside.

I actually think this is just a reflector.

Check the European models - they may have lights in them and you could buy the Euro spec inner lights. I did a similar thing on my Golf R because I wanted 2x reverse lights (they only have 1x reverse light here in Aust) not only for symmetry, but for better lighting at night when reversing.
