Have to say I love the sidesteps on the Amarok. They are just at the right hight to actually function as a step plus they are the 1st thing a car door next to me will touch ....

Ebay (and the forums) are your friends here .... I got OEM steps (RRP$900) for $200 on an Amarok forum and fitted them myself ......

So, keep an eye out for a Tig with steps and stop to have a close look. They are not for everybody as Brad says.

Pretty but an ergonomic disaster which groups functions in a manner that makes it almost impossible to select and operate them without taking eyes off the road for protracted periods.

Sounds just perfect for my wife! She always likes the things that are pretty but totally impractical.

But I do see what you mean when you look closer at the wheel there's a lot going on and the Mk6/current Tiguan set-up looks a lot more user friendly even though it may have less features.

I'll post up some pictures once its installed. Part of the reason I wanted it is that when I drive the car I keep on reaching for the paddle shifters and manual mode is terrible if you have to take your hands of the wheel and bump the gear selector.

Anyway I'm told it's plug and play so I'm about to find out! Now off to hunt down a 12mm triple square bit to take the steering wheel off. I sold the last one I had with the old wheel as I figured I wouldn't need it anymore...

Well the physical installation of the Mk7 wheel wasn't too hard. There was the small issue of having a spare spade connector - essentially another earth connection, however nothing to connect it to so I ended up taping it up and leaving it unconnected.

The good part is that the horn works. The bad part is that all the buttons are screwed up (and many don't work at all). OK button is volume down and I can select the channel up down with the other inside selector buttons but all the other buttons don't work. I'm looking to get my hands on a vagcom cable (was going to need this for coding the DSG paddle shifters anyway) but looks like its going to be a few changes required in terms of coding and possibly even wiring to get everything sorted...

I swapped a Passat wheel with paddles. And every thing worked except the. Paddles. Kurmond did the coding for me. And at the same time I got him to upgrade the POI on my RNS.

I've done the wheel swap before using a Mk6 R wheel but this steering wheel is out of a Mk7 and is totally different in terms of wiring (although uses the same connectors). I might post up in the audio/electronics forum area to see if anyone has any experience with doing this on other vehicles.

Well I've got the paddle shifters working but haven't been able to sort out the other buttons. It doesn't look like there's an option in VCDS to select cruise control on the steering wheel... at least not with my SWCM.

Sorry ian no side steps for me. Wife wants chrome trims around the foglights and aluminium pedals next.

Thought I'd at least post a picture of the steering wheel... although it's not working 100% at the moment I'm hoping to have that sorted out shortly.

I think it's just the model year. Mines a July 2012 built MY13 155TSI. I think MY14 might have had the chrome trims.

I did go into the dealer looking to see if this was just a trim piece that could be added, however it was going to require replacing the whole foglight surrounds which weren't cheap. It's been put on the backburner for the moment.

My wife has seen them on some other Tigs and likes them and I have to admit they do lift the front and tie it in with the grille. I may have to look into it a little further to see what can be done here on a budget. Previous car I got some chrome coloured tape and used this for highlights, however I don't like my chances of using that to do a tight curve around a foglight.
