Hey VW lovers

Help me choose which model to buy and why?

Firstly wife only does about 10k's a year but who knows I might leave the Audi Q5 3.0TDI at home, and occasionally take for a spin as I clock up 25 to 30k a year.

With the car only doing 10,000km's a year, a diesel is simply not needed/justified cost-wise in my opinion. Even if you did 20,000km's a year i would still go for the petrol engine.

If you did a lot of freeway/open road/country driving and was doing 30,000km or more a year then the diesel would be the pick, and would also make more sense financially/environmentally in the long run.

Approximately 2 years ago I was thinking about it as you, when my daughter was swapping Golf5 TDI for the Tiguan. And I have done some math and came to the conclusion that at 45,000km she would recoup the price difference between the TSI Tiguan and TDI Tiguan taking into consideration also the options that the TSI Pacific had fitted just to sweeten the deal.

The fuel economy in the real world is not as good as they advertise in the sales brochure. There is a huge difference in the city driving cycle between the TSI and the TDI and that's what you have to take in the count.

Its not like the 3.0TDI Q5 which is actually a cracking drive .... if you like driving, in the Tiguan the 1 is good and the other not so much .....

Besides, fuel consumption TSI and TDI is pretty much dependent on the driver. Every time I get a small engined TDI car to drive, I am unable to get it below 10l/100km and thats purely because I have to drive it so much harder to keep up with even the smallest of petrol city cars .....

I suggest taking both for a drive.

Once you add the R-line kit onto the 130TDI you're not far off the price of the 155TSI but miss out on Sat Nav, Adaptive Chassis Control and leather.

An optioned up TDI will work out more expensive than the 155TSI R-line. More likely you'll have to factory order the 130TDI with the options you're after and potentially have less bargaining power (unless you play off one dealer against another for the same spec).

With the cost of petrol vs diesel at the moment there's not as big a gap to make paying more for diesel cost effective. I'd be more inclined to make the decision after driving both. If you can arrange to drive them back to back and go around the same loop so you can compare the driving feel of petrol vs diesel.

Our current TDI 103 is fuel efficient as the MFD is saying 6.9litre on no2 stats based on 10000km plus and on individual drive when I drive I've actually achieved a 5.1litre run. Strong easterly pushing me home. LOL I know its not like my Q5 (600nm 213kw 3.0litre diesel) however its still zippy but slightly noisy as the Q5 just purrs.

Tigger will try both back to back when a R line arrives in WA. They only have 130TDI's so far (basic no fruited up)

Now for valuation on mine to come, mmmmm I wonder what ill get 2010 TDI 32000km immaculate with leather comfort pack new tyres etc

I'm looking at the 130TDI with all the options (inc aftermarket leather and heated seats fitted by dealer) for $51k RRP and the 155TSI is also $51k RRP with same options, not sure which way to go, read that the 155TSI can consume like 13l/100km in real world urban driving?

It all depends on how you drive it ..... My 210kw (not just a paltry 155 )Tiguan used to return 9.1 in the urban commute daily if my wife drove it and 10.5 if I drove it .....

True! If turbo kicks in and all the time in boost fuel consumption can go high as 14 - 15 L/100 km, But no boost situation like freeway cruising can deliver under 8L/100 Km.

However I believe 130TDI is more economical than 155TSI in a similar driving scenario..

The 130tdi was far more impressive in our eyes than the 155tsi in so many ways.

well ended up putting a deposit down on a 155tsi today, financially it worked out better than the 130tdi (cheaper) plus I would have had to get aftermarket leather in the 130tdi. Car is arriving in January, I just hope the fuel consumption is around the 10-11l/100km on normal city use!
