Have you not logged it to find out what's happening? Seems pointless swapping out one tune for another for something that could be (likely) a hardware problem.

Returning to stock and having no problems doesn't prove the tune is at fault.

Engine hesitation post stage 1 tune..... HELP!!

If you've flashed a new tune in and it was ok for a while then I would try flashing back to stock, driving a for around 500km and then flashing back in your tune. If it gets worse then it's a problem with the tune adapting.

You could do logging and send the data to superchips but then you'll be on the tuner merry-go-round with the tuner trying to diagnose remotely with half the info they would normally have available on a dyno.

Depends how much patience and confidence that the tuner is going to be able to sort out your issue. Then again it could be a hardware issue which no end of tuning is going to resolve.

So you need to sort out if it's hardware or tune and go from there.

I agree, get it diagnosed properly, making sure that all the sensors work correctly and that the engine is mechanically sound.

just reset it back to standard and about to take it for a spin first...... last time I went back to standard (month ago) it was fine, then put the tune back in and it was fine for about 2 days... that's when it goes pear shaped again after the 2 day period....
          I'll keep ya posted.

Well I would almost bet it's a tune related issue. If it was hardware you'd likely see it straight away.

It sounds like the tune is adapting and then causing you issues.

The way I see it you have three options:
            • Revert to stock and leave it
            • Do logging and work through issues with existing tuner
            • Change to a known tune that works on the Tig (APR)

I had tried option 2 with my previous tune, however gave up when the tune file they put on to solve the issue dropped the power

Good thing with Superchips is you can revert back to stock and sell your programmer so you at least get some $ back

Let us know how you go.

jrobbo on this forum is the tigersoft/superchips rep for AU.

He may be able to help you with your issues.

Alternatively, if your Bluefin is <12 months old they can reset it for $150. You can flog it off & move on to something else. Just write the difference off as the cost of a 7 month trial of the tune. There are a fair few good sub-$1k tunes outr there now.

A few of us have tried and failed with alternate tunes for the Tiguan. I'm not sure why it's not the same as a Mk6 GTI but it seems to be there's enough of a difference to cause tuners a few issues.

If you're going to put APR on I'd be doing it during their sale - APR Easter Sale ends 4th May.

Well, after the reset to standard it appears there is an issue over and above the tune..... I have spent the day f*cking around with it, changed plugs, moved the coil packs around, checked for leaks in hoses/clamps to/from intercooler and it's other piping, cleaned the airfilter, did a throttle reset blah blah blah.... it's not throwing any codes either other than a misfire. After a bit of looking around I found this... and we all know it is well known with TSI engines.

                  Drawbacks

Although Direct Injection provides more power and efficiency, a carbon build-up occurs in the intake valves that over time reduces the airflow to the cylinders, and therefore reduces power. Because the fuel is not longer being sprayed in the intake valves, which contains various detergents and keeps the intakes clean, small amounts of dirt from intake air, even with air filters that prevent most of the dirt from entering the cylinder, cakes on the intake walls.[67] This build-up can become severe enough that a piece can break off and has been known to burn holes in catalytic converters.[68] It can also cause sporadic ignition failures.[69] These problems have been known for some time and technologies have been improved to reduce or eliminate the carbon build-up.

I'm really starting to think I have a nasty carbon build up..... maybe it's off with the intake tomorrow.... all symptoms seem to point to that at this stage, misfires, hesitation, higher fuel usage.....
                  Thoughts?

^ unless you have fairly high km's on your engine, i doubt you have a carbon buildup issue. Perhaps a faulty or blocked injector is the problem.

Well I guess it's good that you at least identified the issue before switching tunes. Hate to spend all those $ just to end up at the same place.

How many km? If your up near 100,000km then it's likely but not absolute. You really should get somebody to have a peak in there with a borescope through the air temp sensor as it's a big job.

You could try a chemical clean through the intake ducting & see if it provides temporary relief.

Most people wouldn't agree with this but you might try topping of your regular tank of 98ron with 15-20L of E85 as a one-off. 20L on top of 35L of 98ron will make ~E30 if the original fuel is E85, less if it's back near E70 - they vary the mix at the servo. It should give you ~103RON

It will give the combustion chambers & injector tips a clean up. I have no idea what the mixtures will be like. The Ethanol will tend to make it lean & then the ECU will up the fuel injection rate to compensate. My car loves the stuff - I put 15-20L in every 6 months or use the United 100ronE10.

Hmmm, not a bad idea - I have similar hesitation issue which I believe to be tune related and has only 45000km so unlikely to be carbon but good suggestion for giving it a good cleanout every so often.
Now I just have to find somewhere up here in hicksville that sells that there newfangled E85 stuff

I'd think you are out of luck in Townsville. No e85 caltex there. United might carry 100ron...
