I'd be seriously interested in that mod if you can see if it's possible without changing the whole damn steering wheel.

I am about to take off my DSG shifters and replace with S2T ones so I'll have a look at the mounting and cables while I'm at it. It may be that these can be bolted onto a stock Tig wheel which would be great.

That is a great idea! This video shows how to remove paddle shifters .. But no idea about the electrical connections availability..

I've contacted bold-sport to see if they have a retrofit/installation guide for non-paddle steering wheels.

Otherwise I'm not sure why they would be selling these parts if you can't fit them.

I saw someone in this forum bought a SW with paddle shifter for $350 shipped. They look exactly the same as ours but with paddle shifter, it's not the GTI SW. I believe it's from Alibaba website. Apparently they are an OEM item that's manufactured in China. I will go with that route instead of retrofitting a paddle shifter.

Good luck with that. For something as important as a steering wheel I would personally never buy it from a place like Alibaba where you seem to get a lot of hit and miss items in terms of quality. I hope you get yours sorted though.

I'm not sure if you have seen this part but surely you would need to purchase the correct steering wheel controller too in order to make use of the paddles? That is if you didn't buy the correct steering wheel?

You can see that there are no connectors in the middle as with the bold-sport part above.

Yes OK so maybe it's a $250 upgrade - best to pop out the airbag and take a look and see if you have the controller that accepts the paddles or run a full scan to see what steering wheel control module you have.

I can't remember what my steering wheel had as far as control modules - will see if I can dig up pictures or at least an old autoscan prior tothe upgrade...

Guys, I'm sorry to say that it's more than the paddles unfortunately. I've already tried.

The paddle mfsw has proper cutouts for the paddles and screw points. The standard wheel does not.

You can buy a whole wheel with the paddles for around 300-400ish, no airbag. As it is just a variant of our mfsw the airbag etc all works.

Don't get the GTI/R wheel unless you want to buy a new airbag.

OK stand to be corrected. Yes you would have to have the cutouts in the wheel for the paddles to fit so if you don't have these they won't go.

l just wonder who bold-sport sells the DSG paddles to if you can't retrofit them. Perhaps that's why they have discounted them.

Yes GTI/R wheel will set you back a lot more as you have to replace the airbag too. Should have thought of that when I was doing mine

May be those are just replacements for broken paddles.

He he.. Don't worry that flat bottom R steering wheel is way cooler than Tiguan MFSW.

                            • Tiguan Transfer Case Replcement

Last few weeks my Tiguan was unfortunate enough to loose power to its rear wheels causing ugly front wheel spin on spirited take-offs in first two gears and sometimes even in third in wet conditions. And initially I thought it could be a haldex malfunction but then realise it is a problem with front transfer box which deliver power to propeller shaft. Actually there were some symptoms before completely losing my rear drive such as slight jerks and slips when accelerating hard like traction control kicking in. But actually there was no ESC light flashing on the dash! Finally I lost my rear drive completely and front wheels started to slip even normal takeoffs.

Finally problem was narrowed down to transfer case and with the help of Guy from HP I got a very low mileage transfer case and replaced the damaged one.

Original Transfer case on the car with propeller shaft removed.

                              Removed from the car

                              Dissected!
Connection between that gearwheel and the shaft has severed!

Other gear drives the propeller shaft..

Oil is very dark and mixed with metal particles..

DSG output for transfer case and driver side wheel.

There was a slight confusion due to different spline profile of original unit and new replacement.. But soon found out original one is same as new one with splines slightly tapered at the end for easy install.

                              Original splines

                              New replacement unit splines

                              New Transfer case installed.

Finally good to have 4Motion back

Any idea how this broke? 1 too many launches???

And I'm still trying to figure out which bit is actually broken. By looks of things both gears still mesh together OK (no teeth stripped off). Is it the gear in the case that has come off it's shaft? Any idea how that can happen.

Good to hear that you're back up and running again.
