Yuk, not good news So I presume Tigs built 2011 on should have had this corrected at the factory?

Tiggy1, apparently engines built from June 2010 onwards have the version2 update tensioners in them...... yours should be fine....

Further to this & after 1 more quick visit to the dealers to resolve a hideous scraping sound when cornering (turned out to be a slightly bent backing plate behind LHS front rotor, probably the tow-truck drivers fault), everything seems to A++ now! Have done 1000k's on the new motor & about to move interstate (Newcastle) so want it to be good before i leave Melbourne...

The only strange thing: You know that sound when you turn the key on, but don't start the engine (TSI) - sort of a 2 second "zsshhhhhhht", not sure exactly what it is, fuel pump maybe? Well, my car now makes that sound sometimes merely by opening the drivers door! Without the key even in the ignition! Have noticed it happen half a dozen times in the last week & a half.

Any ideas?

Mine makes it when i open the door, maybe it was an update between 2009 and 2010

My 2.0L TSI Skoda RS Occy does this also (when opening the door). Has done from the day I bought it. Figured it was just the computer warming something up before I get into the car and start it up

Fuel pump priming. It is triggered by the driver's door opening.

This is a refreshing story given the amount of VW problems being reported through the forum(s)

My Octavia makes that sound when I open the door also - the computer has really changed modern cars
I often also hear a short beep, there's clearly several things the car is preparing for the next trip

Glad to hear that noise is a normal thing! I mean i didn't think it abnormal, just being activated by opening the door was new. As team_v mentioned his doing the same (& others), i suspect maybe an update after mine's build date, as my earlier engine didn't do that. Not sure of the build date, but probably toward the end of '09.

Just clocked another thousand driving from Melbourne to Newcastle, no beats missed. I did try & vary RMP a fair bit along the way, as i don't think sitting on a constant RPM/speed for prolonged periods is ideal for a new motor...

So all good after 2000k's & no oil used.

oh, just out of interest, & while oil being mentioned (by me), i asked if a 'special' oil was used for the first 15000, & they said ''nah, just the usual (approved) shell helix we use for all regular servicing''.

If you baby it with low revs for say the first 1,500km, your engine will thank you for it and use less oil (going forward)

I have been told / read
Running in of any engine is a balance of reasonable load to high load in the early life of the engine with as close to no light to low load as possible.

I have been trying to work out how to run my Tiguan in once it arrives. Read so many conflicting ideas from baby it to drive it like you stole it. I really have no idea now but will ask the dealership their advice as well once it arrives.
