  • Group Buy: R-Dash LED Licence Plate

Fellas, plan to get these direct from R-Dash via their AliExpress store:

This is a special fitment for my Tiguan (MY11) and confirmed to be error free and a complete plug n play, swap & replace unit.

Following discount applies, if we buy bulk.

    Sherry Chueh:
Hi Hugh, we did this way and installed on Tiguan, no error.
The price is $55 per set send by FedEx international priority.
Our aliexpress store do not sell $45 send by standard airmail.
Aliexpress store do not accept Paypal payment but accept credit card, so it is convenient too.
If you buy 2 sets at a time, get $15 discount
    4 sets, get $40 discount
    6 sets, get $ 75 discount.

At the moment, you can get them from eBay resellers for $45 shipped but they are using standard airmail and not FedEx.
But unfortunately, none have ones compatible for MY11+ Tigs and only mainly stock ones for Mk5 & Mk6 Golfs.

NOTE: Those with MY10 and lower Tigs, should be able to get away with using the Golf ones on eBay. But not later Tigs!

Anyhow, please let me know (by Monday) if anybody else interested.

They should be able to now make ones for MY11+ Gen 1 and Gen 2 Tigs.

But please provide your VIN for them to double check compatibility.

    Definitely interested.

As you say pretty much all of the other LED license plate lights that fit a Tig will throw errors on the later models.

The only other error free one that I found was here: VW TIGUAN License Number Plate Light Lamps LED UPGRADE WHITE Canbus No Error

Or you can buy direct off the mylitco.com website a little cheaper

Trust me I've tried all types of LED festoon bulbs, from cheap to expensive.

The difference is just how long before the error light pops up on the MFD.

My current festoon just went and lasted about 6 months.

Just fcuking sick of changing them!

P.S. The pic used by mylitco are R-Dash based on the same company logo licence plate. So probably a reseller.

But how are they cheaper at $60 AUD or even from their website (after you add shipping)?

Yes probably same source. The ebay ones are $60, and the mylitco.com work out a bit cheaper (than the ebay ones). Probably because they're not paying ebay fees.

Anyway your ali-express ones look like the way to go. The only thing we've got to work out is most cost effective way of getting the shipped to everyone.

For those worried about these R-Dash replacement numberplate lights throwing up an error on your dash....they won't. I have the same brand numberplate lights in my Golf and they work perfectly. No error - no globes blowing - no issues. Had them since about mid way through last year and no issues with them what so ever.

You can buy these with confidence.

            Thanks for the feedback buddy!

But there's also a whole thread of mine raving on about all their interior LEDs that I have fitted already.

These licence plate ones will finish off the whole suite, unless they do fogs and parkers one day.

            http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...tml#post654373

Whilst they are expensive, I can definitely vouch that every one of them are still radiating the brightest pure white without any blue tinge.

Actually I told a fib ... I don't have their full suite/kit because they also don't make both front and back reading lights for Tigs with sunroofs.

Something I will be asking them to see if they can rectify.

I'm happy to pick up the tab for local shipping (i.e. from my place to yours) if you really are serious tigger73.

Prepared to offer this to 2 more people.

But hopefully not everyone is interstate.

Again ... will be pulling out the credit card tomorrow night (regardless of discount or not)!

For those interested in what premium pricing gets you:

The brightest of bright and absolute pure white!

                    R-Dash (18 SMDs) vs Festoon (6 x 5050 SMDs)

Also no more bulb out warning on my MFD!

Check out the size of the resistor compared to the in-built one on the festoon.
Expect this to do the job for the lifetime of the LED.

Only problem is no where to tie it down to.
Have it moving around inside the boot lid at the moment.

Out of interest the festoon you took out looks like it contains 6 x 3 chip SMD's so the equivalent of 18 LED's. Obviously from your pictures though, the whole new unit looks much brighter. The only concern I have with that is ratttling inside the tailgate from the resistor as you mentioned. But the look is spot on.

Incidentally what if you disconnect the resistor and disable the number plate light monitoring via VCDS? The led's would still work and you'd have no resistor block rattling about. Or is it not as simple as that? My monitoring was disabled and I'm running standard fetsoon LED's but not as bright as those.

Is the festoon from jpwarden on ebay?

Sorry buddy ... but you've got the units mixed up.

My existing one (that gave me errors) was a 6 (2 x 3) SMDs festoon pictured on the RHS.

The whole new R-Dash unit (including casing) on the LHS contains 18 (3 x 6) smaller SMDs.

In terms of rattling ... I think something can be done once you take out the whole black bar/strip holding both licence plate light, handle in place.

Just too lazy to go through it and don;t want to risk screwing around with the RVC.
Still recovering from both the physical & emotional scars with that DIY install.

Don't know why but my MY11 is very sensitive!
Continues to throw up errors with all LED festoon bulbs even with monitoring disabled via VCDS.

                        Can't remember where I bought those 2 x 3 festoon from.

They still work perfectly ... but like I said threw up errors on my MFD.
However, most likely not a problem in earlier model Tigs and all Golfs.

Hi mate looking again at your pictures and comparing with the current ones on my car those look very bright so I may well ordering a set of those myself and removing the resistor to see if they still work ok. The monitoring on mine was switched off and so far no errors have been thrown up, which in theory it shouldn't because it was disabled via VCDS. A few of us have done that over on mytiguan.com and it worked, although as you say, the 2011 and later cars are very sensitive!

Can you just confirm if the replacement units include the OEM connector block as on the original light modules?

It's a complete swap and replace after you unplug the original.
In other words, you'll end up with the whole original licence plate lights as spare parts.

If in doubt, give them the VIN of your Tig via AliExpress and they'll check compatibility for you.

However at the moment, it's chinese new year and probably out of action for 2 weeks.

Yeah I know about the Chinese new year when do they start back at work, I wanted to order my LED tail lights.
