  • Tiguan VCDS Coding Options

Thought I might just start and focus a thread on VCDS coding tweaks specific to the Tig.

By no means am I an expert on the matter!

However I intend to share what I've learnt and gathered to date, with the hope that others will gain interest in the topic and in turn share any new tweaks or settings that they've unravelled on their Tigs.

The first place that delivers the biggest BFB or return on investment (once you've purchased a VCDS cable from Ross-Tech) is to access the full Convenience Settings via MODULE 9 - Central Electronics.

In total there are 30 Bytes/sub-menus (0 - 29) and each with various Bits/Check boxes which serve to turn options 'on' or 'off'.

    IMPORTANT TIP:
Access to this MODULE 9 is quite temperamental! Sometimes you may see a "no response from controller" message appear on your screen, but with no such problem with other modules during the same session. Ross-Tech have suggested that it is a VW gremlin that puts this module to sleep, whenever it detects that the doors are locked.

Solution is to just lock, unlock your doors a few times (using driver side central lock buttons) and finally end with the doors unlocked.

Officially there is a Ross-Tech Coding Manual for the Tig:
    VW Tiguan (5N) - Ross-Tech Wiki

However it is incomplete and most entries refer to coding from other VAG vehicles.

Now screen shots of certain Bytes and Bits that may be of interest to people:

Note: If there is no check box provided for a certain Bit (e.g. Bit 1 above), then you can instead manually enter 'on' or 'off' into the Binary Code by typing '0' for 'off' and '1' for 'on' in the correct corresponding character. Remember that Bit 0 is always the last character in the Binary code and Bit 1 the second last and so on (as you're suppose to read the Binary Code from right to left).

I'd just like to add that, before you start any tweaking in VCDS do the full system scan, so you have all the controllers original coding when the things go bad, there is no undo button.

Before you change coding many screens in VCDS have "Test" button and it will display "Coding accepted" when all good, if not don't click "Save" button.

Here, here. Am I right in assuming that if you activate the 'mirror lowering with reverse gear' that they will lower? I wouldn't have to change anything else? If so, that is a massive WIN!

Getting that mirror to lower is totally worth the price of the cable!! (But would prefer to borrow someone elses...)

It's just the passanger side mirror that will lower but yes, if you have the mirror adjustment knob to the left once you select reverse the mirror will lower automatically then return to it's normal position once in P or you drive off..I love it on the Golf.

Unfortunately coding has only enabled me to select it from the MFD.

                Still hasn't worked for me!

Need people like prodigy who have a Golf with this Function working to provide VCDS scan.

Comparing Golf's coding with ours will help confirm whether it's missing code or hardware that is needed for Tig to work.

For me, it was ability to enable the flappy paddles that cable has paid for itself somewhat.

But more so ... the peace of mind that there's no problems with the car under a full scan.

Or a heads up on what's the problem when things do go pear shaped.

                    Hey all,

Has anyone with a MY11 Tig been able to get Side mirror dip to work when in reverse?

I can get the option to appear in MFD using VCDS but nothing happens to mirror when in reverse?

Sorry, just realized that others have noted the problem with the "dip side mirror" coding.

//- On a side note... I enabled the "Beep on locking" code which added the option "ATA Confirmation" to my convenience menu however did not add any horn noise when locking the car so I went back not VCDS to disable that one bit, confirmed the code string was 100% matching my initial scan of module 9 however the "ATA Confirmation" option is still in the menu (only difference is you cant turn it on or off)

Seems strange to me that it is doing this, any suggestions? If it's not going to work, I'd rather the option not be there. -// note: I was able to get rid of the stuck ATA menu item buy just leaving the car for 20mins

For the people who have this working, do you have the optional security system? (I don't, perhaps that's the problem!?)

                      Cheers,

Yes mate ... you do actually need to have taken out the factory "alarm" option for the beep to work.
I've noticed most people don't tick that box!
From memory, it's a $600 option and gives you motion sensors and siren.

Admittedly, VCDS coding description is a bit misleading!

Actually "beep" sound comes from the siren and NOT the horn from your steering wheel.

Many around the world already tried that, it didn't work. In Touareg you have to have el.seats with the memory.

Damn...still cranky the leather seat option has an electric seat but no memory...not getting the mirror to dip cause of that makes it worse...
