I can see both povs here, I too am a serious Porsche addict (have been since I could talk) and would like nothing better than to be driving a Zuffenhausen wunderkar. BUT, I seriously would not be happy with a Cayman or a Boxster knowing that a 911 of similar vintage (a right proper Porka) was just beyond my reach. I would be looking at an older 911 myself, work out what your max budget is and see what kind of 911 you can get for the money. I think that if you got a Cayman or Boxster you would regret not taking the final step to a 911.

I too am thinking of a Golf R when the Tig is paid off and was disappointed to hear your opinion of them Maybe I need to drive one before I commit to saving for one. Maybe we should both do killer Tigs?

Pullstarter, if you want a hot hatch, go and drive the new megane RS250- it has sublime handling, goes like stink, and performance upgrades are available. Just wait a few months though, let the resale crash and pick up a low k one, be awesome value then.

you wont get any argument from me about the feel good factor of owning a Porsche. i dont even have to drive mine for it to put a smile on my face !
i had the opportunity recently to spend some time in a 987 series Boxster S and they are an incredible car, from a driving perspective and a practicality perspective (if you only want 2 seats), modern, capable and comfortable.
the decision about it being the car for you is complex and personal- i dont like the way the Cayman looks, pure and simple, its not for me, would i buy a 987 S- in a heartbeat, would i sell the 911 to buy the Boxster (which is what financially i would have to do) never, because the purchase of the 911 was very personal, a childhood dream and as corny as it sounds a lifetime achievement.
Buy the Porsche- the right one for you- 'there is no substitute'[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

sharkie as you know there's more to a 'fun' car than just straight line speed...
I almost bought a tiggy too but I didn't because I hesitated and the car was gone a few hours after I test drove it
since you don't take yours off road anyway why would you want the extra weight, height and CoG of a SUV? it's not that practical either with that tiny boot
As others have said, you have one of the most practical cars on the market now, but since you still have kids to cart around, how about something like a e46 M3
Back in the day, when I had the choice of a stage 3 2.0T or a Cayman S, it was always a no brainer

+1 worked Tiguan or any run of the mill car Does not compare with a thoroughbred sports car. It is more a case of emotional attachment in your case.

I was at the Adelaide Carnevale yesterday and saw some really nice cars there incl. Ferrraris, it makes you want one just for that engine sounds.
