Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Don't know if the paint will be required. It comes in black/dark grey ABS plastic and that may be good enough. The idea for me is no chrome and I really like its shape. Will ditch the ABT badge though.

Really keen on seeing it fitted on your Tig !, so lots of pictures needed then .....

notice your current ride is an FPV6. A bit off topic I know, but as a bit of a serious weapon themselves, interested as to why you have traded that for the Tig? Seems like there might be an interesting story in that? Sorry if you have aready covered it, but couldn't see anything

No worries Jimbo. I'm not actually trading the F6 for the Tig...I upgraded the 'wifes' car from a Polo GTI to a Tig. The F6, well that's a whole other story...

I originally was signed up and ready to go on a Passat R36, had it ordered (first batch) and was awaiting a build date. I discovered the new FG F6-310, and got to take one for a test drive (I mean, the R36 order was placed on fanfare alone!), and I just loved the turbo spool and awesome power. So in short, I cancelled my order (dealer had no problem with that, the waiting list was as long as my arm so I presume he passed it onto the next sucker in line) and ordered the F6.

2 & 1/2 years later, and I find myself pondering the missed opportunity. So, I've decided to go back from whence I came (so to speak) - pocket rockets. You'll notice in my sig that I have an R on order - that's the so called upgrade (more of a cross-grade really) from the F6. I'll be treating the R as a road power project, so will be doing as much as humanly possible to it to max KW's, 1/4's and 0-100's - should be a lot of fun.

Once the bloody APR upgrade is available for my build (MY11 Tig), I look at upgrading there, but that could be months away.

          Hey Rozza

Did you notice this? I don't know what that means for the firewall...

Anyway, I got mine flashed the other day and it has transformed the Tig fom a good car to an awesome car (IMHO anyway)!

Not sure how relevant this is for you Paul, but after reading about the issues you experienced getting the ECU upgrade done, I got in contact with James Kearns at Harding Performance (APR Master Dealer in Aus) today regarding an ECU Upgrade for a MY11 125TSI as I have one on order and will be keen to get it chipped as well.

            James has informed me that:

“We currently do not have an issue with 2011 cars. The US MY11 cars have different ECU box codes than Australian cars, however depending on the build date we have to alter our installation method.

All APR dealers have the required tools to perform ECU upgrade wether the ECU remains in the car or with some of the later cars the ECU has to be removed.

If the version of software is not currently available on the APR server, the dealer can perform a code extract and this will be sent to APR for development. Once the code is ready, the car is rebooked for the upgrade.”

So its sounds like it either could be ready, or shouldn’t be too hard to sort out.
