That exit is a pain at the best of times, you actually have to give it a squirt to exit.
Nice to know the car stands out

Didn't know there was a Euro Xmas meetup at Hamilton?
2 bucket system entails using one bucket with warm water and car shampoo (wash bucket) and another with warm/cold water (rinse bucket).
You dip the wash mitt into the wash bucket then wash a section of the car.
Then rinse the mitt off in the rinse bucket which stops all teh dirty bits getting into the clean wash bucket.
apparently it reduces swirls and damage ot the car, it is a common method in detailing from what i have read.

I actually have a snow foamer, it just doesn't get used much as it is used to wash the house with.
I will have a look at the nanolex reactiviating shampoo, i just used duragloss as it was the best shampoo that i had read about on the CCP website.

      Thanks for the tips.

Ah I see, thanks for the info on the 2 bucket system. I found with the nanolex that most of the dirt washed off with the hose when I rinsed the car first before washing. Bucket didn't get half as dirty then.

As for the Euro meet.....ummmmm, it's scheduled for Friday 17th.....doesn't any b@stard work? I can't make it as I'm working that morning and then on the gas (alcohol) that afternoon with 2 Xmas parties!!!!

Bugger me, that stuff aint cheap!!!

When you say use it every month.....do you also wash you car with something other than this more frequently, or do you only wash your car once a month with this stuff only?

The nanolex does help wash a lot of the dirt off but you would be surprised at just how dirty the rinse bucket gets from grime that hangs on to the car.
I didn't realise how much there was until i used the 2 buckets and now i will only wash the car with 2 buckets.

I work but my work is more flexible so i can leave a tad early to get to the meet ups.
Shame you can't make it, but at least you'll have fun at the work xmas party.

I only wash my car once every 4-6 weeks so the nanolex shampoo could be an option when my Duragloss runs out (won't be for a while though as i got the big bottle.)

            • Being new to the Forum, I am spending a bit of time checking out members' VWs. Yours stands out as one of the nice ones. What a slick and elegant looking car... especially in that blue!

How are you finding the APR components, Stage 2 is said to deliver a pretty substantial power lift, definitely one of the best VW mods out there!

                Thanks for the kind words.
The blue is great, doesn't look too dirty like the black does but also stands out.

Stage 2 is great for power, fuel economy takes a bit of a hit but the smile it puts on my face is definitely worth the extra consumption.

team V is it true fuel economy takes a hit if you still drive for economy? Sounds like one of the noticeable improvements is even more grunt and responsiveness right from 1000rpm, which would be awesome as one of the things like most about the stage 1 upgrade is just how much f...ing torque there is in this 2 litre motor right from down low, night and day difference from the 2.0 litre turbs of old.

I think the extra low down grunt is part of the reason the stage 1 helps improve fuel economy, because it means you can run high gears at low revs more easily, which really helps with economy. So wondering then - if stage 2 has helped with grunt and responsiveness from 1000rpm, whether it need effect economy, if driven for? Of course I m appreciate that with the extra responsiveness, it gets even harder to drive for economy!

Also read a few pages back you removed the engine mount? Still out? Considering same ourselves, I like the roughness in a way, gives the Tig a bit more animal and large engine feel, but you do loose low down smoothness and I really liked that.

Fuel economy with Stage 2 sits around mid 8's for city driving when driven frugally.
Highway it will sit on high 6's to low 7's unless you go over 110km/h.
The difference over Stage 1 is certainly noticeable, power from around 1750RPM right through to 5500-6000.
Still get's between 10-11l/100km when driven for fun

For fuel economy Stage 1 is the way to go, Stage 2 trades some of that fuel economy for added power.

                    Engine mount is still out.
Couldn't live with the vibrations at idle with the air con running.
The smooth gear changes will be sorely missed but the smoothness of general driving and vibration free ride is worth it in my opinion.
The Polo 9n3 guys have noticed the same as well.

                    • Thanks, the extra bite from 1750 sounds great, but not so the loss in fuel economy, so probably not for me...hmmmmm then again! If you were to do just one part of the stage 2 upgrade what would it be - the carbono air intake?

Yeah think the days of our engine insert are numbered, Mrs has never really warmed to it and like you, the low end vibration is quite noticeable. You take it out yourself and if so easy?

                      cheers

I find Stage 1 will be enough for day to day driving.
Stage 2 is awesome but not really necessary for daily use.
I would say the air intake is a good upgrade to do as it is cheaper and easier and sounds great under throttle.

I got APR to remove the mount, they did it free of charge.
Took about 5 minutes with the right tools.

                        On another note.
Drive home today, bit of traffic light gp and bit of sedate driving netted 8.2l/100km
I am sure with light weight wheels and higher tyre pressures you could net high 7's for Stage 2 on a regular basis.

Got some Christmas car products as well.
A wheel brush, some microfibre washing brushes, a synthetic chamoise and a giftcard for supercheap auto

                          • Had a fun experience on the weekend.
Some annoying flying creature decided to expell waste all over the car.
Had a strip from the to pof the bonnet all teh way to the front and down the front of the car to the lip.

Only realised it after a sleep in so it was hot day and it dried on.
Wonderful nanolex sealant makes it easy as pie to take care of though.
Just gave it a spray with the hose and wiped it off, good as new.

Might look at a Border ranges cruise, will probably be in March for Tig's (could invite the other SEQLD VW guys too)

I had similar on my previous car from a pelican, only left it on for the weekend (I was over at Straddie). When I washed off, it had attacked the clear coat and made a real mess. Bloody pelican poo!
