  • Tiguan Rear Swaybar - Installation & Reviews

    Howdy Guys,
Installed the whiteline 24mm rear swaybar on the Tig today and gotta say it makes a VERY noticable difference! Much sharper steering and much flatter cornering, for $295 shipped it's definitely excellent bang for your buck!

Hey Simon, did you end up with the H&R's too? I can't remember - CRAFT's disease!!!

I've had H&R springs for a while now, I think I was the first in AU maybe? Am thinking about H&R coilovers though, it's them or wheels, decisions decisions :S

After a few more days driving you really notice the difference on all those familiar corners. Body roll has been significantly reduced. Not sure on whether to get a front sway bar or not, didn't make any noticable difference on the VR6 but with an awd chassis it may? That's an impressive list Johan, your finance people need to talk to my finance people

              Interesting info.
The H&R rear bar is $250 + shipping on ECStuning due to their sale.
Haven't heard anything bad about the whiteline bars though.

Would this limit the soft-road capabilities?

Due to the size (width of the car) of the swaybar, shipping would be over $100 I'd expect, so H&R not an option.

Yeah i figured it would be a bulky shipment, might have to go with the ebay whiteline one as well.

Well digging up an old thread as I've just installed a Whiteline rear sway bar on my Tig this morning.

Cornering is definitely flatter and sharper and it feels like it's running on rails compared to before.

I bought Whiteline front and rear sway bars plus an anti-lift kit on a 20% off sale just after Christmas but have only just got around to fitting the rear bar.

After fitting the rear bar I thought I'd start on the front but only got as far as unbolting the old bar and realised that it wasn't going to be an easy job. Basically after it is unbolted there's no way to slide the old bar out without a major amount of dis-assembly of the front end. So given that I was only working with a couple of car jacks and some jack stands I decided to call it a day and will book it in with a workshop with a hoist.

Hopefully the front sway bar and ALK will go on later this week.

                      Whiteline sway bar, hi five!

I know on the Golf's and Scirocco's that the whole front subframe has to come out to change the front sway bar - unless you are very keen it's definetly one for a proper workshop with air rachets and houst etc.

The car will feel completely different once its all done.

Yes front sway bar requires the whole front subframe to be dropped in order to get the old sway bar out and the new one in. Definetely not a job to be done on the driveway.

Rear sway bar installation was a piece of cake in comparison. Though I did have to put my wheels back on and head out to Bunnings to pick up a 10mm spline bit in order to undo some of the bolts. Once I got that it was a relatively straight forward job.

Hmmmm, may have to reconsider getting rear swaybar. Maybe once I get my DP and stage-2 tune so that I can hang the tail out more
On a more serious note - does the Whiteline ASB come with new linkages? I have heard others say that the originals can become a weak point if not upgraded as well?!
                          Cheers

No the rear bar doesn't come with new linkages. Will have to do some further investigation here as I don't want to break my car.

I got the front sway bar and anti-lift kit installed today and had a wheel alignment done at the same time. The ALK does change the geometry at the front-end so wheel alignment is highly recommended. Went on the medium setting on the front bar. Certainly a lot more planted and flat going around corners now. I wouldn't say zero body roll, however I'd say about 90% less.

I'm still running the stock springs but even with these the car sits pretty flat around corners. Stiffer springs would probably only make it a firmer ride.

A few issues with the front bar as under hard acceleration there's occasionally some interference/noise from the rear drive shaft coming in contact with the sway bar. The workshop that did the installation reckons the bar is moving sideways when cornering. They put some hose clamps on to try and stop the movement but seems that it needs something a little more. So I'm chasing this one up with Whiteline as to how best to resolve the issue.

Well this can happen with the brackets supplied on the rear sways:
