Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Certainly no expert but I have BS RE003's on mine and found them a huge improvement over the original conti's that were on it, very good in the wet and dry, also good value for money with the 4 for 3 deal they run quite often. I'm running 18s so not sure of what's available in your size though.

    • I ran S001's on my old Tig and although the tyre is great, the wear/life is not fantastic. I only got 20,000km out of a set.

If you need that exact size (235/55R17), I'd look at the Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport. Not sure if these are on 4 for 3 though...

If you want one on special you'd have to go for an S001 or RE003 in 225/55R17 which is slightly thinner/smaller tyre. However both of these tyres do not meet the minimum load/speed rating for the car (99V) so would not be legal and may void your insurance.

      • What type of tyre do you want & what budget?

If you want a touring tyre that lasts forever, Michelin Primacy 3 & Primacy HP are around $260 each. Latitude Sport are $240

        Goodyear F1A2 are ~$210

Not sure about this, according to the plate on my fuel flap the min. rating for the 17s is 99H and 97H for the 18s, the RE003's are 101W. Not sure about S001.

            • ah true looks like 235 50/18 tyres i have on mine are 101w so might not be a good option for 17" rims

              • Yes each tyre size has different load/speed rating within the same model range so you really need to check the specs for the size you're looking for.

                • Recently fitted Falken ze 914 as they have a 60,000 klm guarantee to my Tiguan. The Continentals lasted 38,000 kms and were a great tyre. These Falkens have been on for 8,000 so far very happy, same quietness as the continentals and a very similar performance.
