Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The Bridgestone Dueller HP on my wife's new Tiguan R-Line are that impressive I will use them to replace the tyres on my Audi SQ5 - good wet or dry, more than sufficient grip and a nice quiet ride.

      Yes, and they last 120,000km
I am waiting patiently for the next pay-for-3-get-4 deal to buy them

Need to replace the tyres on my Tiguan, 235/55/R18. Went to the local Goodyear dealer as it has Eagle F1's on it at the moment. They currently have a 4 for 3 deal on. Was quoted $1265 for Eagle Efficient Grip....

Can't seem to find any pricing online for this particular size, but means the tyres are priced at ~$420ea. Does seem right?

that size for some reasons is deemed rare hence the high(er) prices than other common sizes.

          just like 225 40 18 costs more than 235 40 18 tyres.

Is there anything stopping me from changing to an aspect ratio that's more common in that size?

Thats rubbish - check out Tempe tyres online and eBay.
My Goodyear excellence for the Audi SQ5 which are 255/45/20 were $350.

Contact Rubal at Goodyear Croydon in Melbourne as he has Internet/forum specials on the F1A2's.
You'll have to check to rolling diameter of the tyre to make sure your speedo is not out too much.

What rim size are you running 18 x ?

Usually you can fit a number of different tyre combinations on the same rim. You may be able to go to something like a 245/50 R18 but best check. A good tyre shop should be able to help you select something suitable.

Try calling a few tire shops up. That will give you a better idea on pricing.

$220 each at my local store (Tempe Tyres) but out of stock, so they could be $100 and it wouldn't matter.

$316 each is at the top of the price range IMO. You don't mention the load & speed rating as that makes a difference.

Michelin Lattitude Tour HP 99 T are $220 at my local & in stock. I'd probably consider them if the load / speed rating is OK.

The secondhand 2010 Tig I bought in November last year is wearing Bridgestone Turanza T001 tyres. So far I've done about 23,000km, mostly highway driving, and I have been impressed with them to the point that I am thinking I will replace them with the same tyres when this lot wear out. Everyone who travels in the car comments how quiet it is. Haven't looked at cost and have no idea how many km were done on these before I bought the car, but thought I would share my impressions given that these tyres don't seem to have been mentioned in this thread so far.

I did well on tyresales for our other vehicle. Probably worth a look:

I got my T001 235/50/18 from the local Bob Jane nearly two years ago when they were on special. They aren't cheap as they are premium touring tyres. So far I think they are perfect for highway cruising, good grip (dry and wet) durable, and they are very quiet. Much better than my previous Yokohamas Advan ST V802....they are horrible!

I am also surprised that these tyres aren't being mentioned in this thread that much.

my 2012 tig is running bstone duellers on 16" rims. 39,000km still look like new. playing with pressures at the moment. 36 PSI seems a bit too high
