  • BMW X1 review and compared to Tiguan

    From smh website

Great to see that they have referred to the Tiguan as "class-leading". The $50,000 plus pricing on the X1 also provides me confidence in my choice to buy a Tiguan.

The X1 would have been my next choice.

It will be quite a capable car however the extra price for little extra benefit over the Tiguan.
It is cheaper than the Q5 though.

Will be interesting to see a proper comparrison when the Q3 comes out.

Very seriously looked at an X1 for my wife... ended up buying a 123d coupe LOL. It's a really nice car - looks great, feels nice, and goes well.

RWD bias would make for a bit more enjoyment however the car looks quite small inside.

One of the big selling points was the cabin size (not so much boot space) of the tiguan and the sliding rear seat.

If the X1 (or X3 for that matter) came with 3.0 TT engine (in manual or DCT) I'd trade the Tig on it in less time than it took to read this .......

As much as I love my VWs (and the Tig is our 7th), I like BMW more .... (having had 5) and if in Australia they came out in the versions I like, I'd have 1 already .....

The all new BMW X1 with Underground-GPS:

There are the roads you can see, and then there are the unseen roads beneath the roads. The advanced-engineered Underground-GPS system available exclusively in the all new compact and versatile BMW X1, is the only one of its kind capable of showing the streets beneath the streets of Australia’s major cities. A labyrinth of underground shortcuts, the roads were previously only accessible by Board of Metropolitan Water workers. BMW is proud to announce it has negotiated an exclusive contract that will allow X1 drivers unfettered access to this traffic-free gateway to the beach and countryside. The BMW X1 with Underground-GPS launches on April 11.

              X1 won't get the 3.0L TT.
They don't even get it overseas from memory.

Might have to test drive the X1 when it finally gets released here and see how it compares to the Tig.
There was a pic floating around a while ago where the X1 was being tested overseas and the Tig had to tow it out of a snowbank.

You're right about the APR TSI, but if you are going to talk chipped / flashed then you can do the same with the 2.3 diesel BMW engine, and it's starting with 150KW and 400NM... and it's diesel fuel economy not 98 PULP...

It chips to 182kw/490NM .... and only revs to 4500rpm ... AND costs $20K more than the top Tig .... not worth it IMO ....

                      Bring a 3.0TT X1 (X3) for $80K and I'd have one already ...

EDIT ... 3.0TDI Q5 is far better value than a X1/X3 IMO .... chips to 210kw/600NM with 7spd DSG and low fuel economy ....

Those high strung TT 2.0 TDIs won't last long I believe .... I have the same issue with the new 2.0 TT TDI VW is bringing ... bet you we'll hear many horror engine failure stories over the next few years from both camps ....

                      EDIT2: And the BMW has a 2.0 TT TDI, not a 2.3 ..... same applies to the 123d .... its a 2.0 only ....

Went and had a look at an X1 today for mum. It's a comfortable, car like compact wagon that would do well in the city. Apart from the model in the dealer today having a flat battery and costing almost $89,000, it was perfect.

We then went to VW and bought a Tiguan

After passing on your advice about the engines, they bought a 125TSI. Candy white, comfort package, New York rims, RNS510 and Park Assist.

                              Good choice Maca !!!

I went down to my local BMW dealer this morning and had a good look at the X1 .....

Looks wise the Tig is overall better ..... X1 has a Lancer Hatch rear look going which looks rubbish ... front is slightly better than the Tig ....

Interior wise, the Tig looks & feels more expensive ... the plastics in the X1 is quite ordinary IMO. The leather looks plasticky .....

Engine wise, its a draw ... no TSI equivalent in the X1, but their diesels are both better than the TDIs.....
                              especially the 2.0 TT ....

Pricewise the Tig has it won as well .... X1 starts at $58K on the road (in QLD) and has far less features and feels cheaper than any Tig .....

The reviewer of that article must have been bribed by BMW as the Tig wins overall by an easy margin IMO .... (and I normally like BMWs more than VWs)
