Hey, I don't particularly like the ix35, but I reckon it offers excellent value for money if you have needs in that class. Equally, one of the challenges facing the Tig at the top end is the BMW X1
Sorry mate, Skoda is 40 years older car maker than VW. The quality of Skoda cars is not less than VW and it is been like that for long time.

      Re: Hyundai ix35 vs. Tiguan

Sorry mate, I wasn't implying there's anything wrong with Skoda ( or Czech or Sth African manufacturing) today, but there certainly were, back around the same time the first Hyundai landed on these shores from Sth Korea. Manufacturing in both Czech Republic & Sth Korea have evolved at about the same rate, although Hyundai doesn't have the benefit of a parent as Skoda has with VW

I road tested ix35 6 speed automatic, diesel with 135kW and 395Nm torque. With leather seats that were comfortable first but lacking of support while driving. The acceleration was not as good as I expected . The engine was noisy outside and there was too much noise from wind and from the tyres especially when the road was not 100% smooth (was ok on perfect road surface, so I’m guessing that the suspension allows the noise transmit through the body), the dashboard is of modern design but it is let down by the hard plastic that is also used on the door trim and is easy to mark. After an hour of driving I returned ix35 to the dealer, thank him for the opportunity to drive it and without too many comments left the place.

IMHO the ix35 is a good car but in different league than lets say the Tiguan and VW has nothing to fear from ix35 especially if you want a diesel with auto.

haha - I'm not, ever driven one? Just more cheap Korean rubbish. My bro is looking at them all, he forwarded this to me about these marvelous vehicles:

            Three recalls in Australia.
            Reported problems include:
            • leaking tail/indicator lights and rear window
            • faulty stereos and power windows,
            • malfunctioning blue tooth kits,
            • faulty/broken fuel gauges
            • faulty ABS.
            • front disc brakes problems
            • interior roof lining and rear upholstery problems
            • faulty front struts.

Overseas there have been recalls in South Korea, the United States and Mexico for faulty brakes, fuel leaks and engine malfunctions.

Yeh Holden - way to go!

              Indeed.

One of my mates just bought one. I wonder if the sat nav had the service centre preprogrammed in anticipation of frequent visits. Didn't have the heart to give my honest opinion as to his choice of spending $40K....

Interesting thing just happened. I was doing a search for somethng unrelated to cars and started typing in "problems with" this is the top 10 suggestions that came up in order:
                1. Windows 7
                2. iPhone
                3. Facebook
                4. Internet Explorer
                5. Internet Explorer 8
                6. iPhone 3G
                7. Digital TV
                8. HOLDEN CAPTIVA
                9. Nokia N97
                10 FORD TERRITORY

Not sure how I'd feel about my car coming up in the top 10 "problems with..." search. Glad the Tig didn't come up!

Comparison test between the iX35i TDI , Nissan XTrail TDI and Tiguan TDI in the latest Wheels magazine.

Another win for the Tiguan .....

HOWEVER, anybody wanting a TDI had better take a look at the performance figures of the Tiguan (or serious lack thereof) and be sure you can be happy with it.

They even mentioned the feel faster than it is,factor (the reason of which I've explained many times previously) ....

DPF Delete and tune should get it going though

And having it smoking like a coal fired train and illegal in all states and territories of Oz all in 1 go.

I'd never recommend doing a DPF delete to any car .....

Incidentally, in the same issue of Wheels, their long term Audi 3.0 TDI had DPF issues with the PF getting clogged due to constant city driving and needing a clean / regeneration .... bottom line on the diesels are that you need to drive it on the open road more than just occasionally as they do clog up doing city driving only .... even though Transporter claims otherwise ... ... and a clogged DPF is not a warranty item ... its a pay before you go again exercise ....

So far Wheels have managed to break a DSG box and clog a DPF all in 3 issues ..... good testing of VAG products it seems .... NOT

I thought the DPF was only there to meet Euro V emissions standards and as such, was not illegal to remove as the standards are only in place for the sale of new cars?

I would be looking at a chip first and if i needed more power then dpf delete or getting an Audi Q3 or something with a bigger engine.

I haven't driven the ix35 (and dont particularly want to) but have driven the new Sante fe R.

Ride and overall feel is certainly not up to the Tigs, but with that said there was plenty to like, interior was decent, quite roomy, six speed box was easy to use (actually better than the Tigs I thought) and the diesel engine had plenty of grunt. I thought the seats were Ok but wasn't a long time in the seat.

So for those looking for a diesel SUV and your regular needs mean a Tig is just not big enough (ie regularly need lots of space), I'd at least check the Sante Fe out.

Me - love our Tig, cant see myself changing that for a long time. Sure it could be a little bigger, but for 95% of our driving its plenty big enough and for the other 5% we have solutions.

Tell you what drove the freelander 2 td4e pretty good and a real offroader from reviews.
Reliability and resale is poor though... they should have changed its name to disassociate it from the previous terrible freelander.... a bit like hyundai tends to do.

People associate the Tiguan and VW with quality when in actual fact it is not. Read the following link.
